Job Description
R1 Construction are seeking an experienced Site Manager for an upcoming new build education project in the Slough area, commencing in the last week of October 2026.
The project is currently programmed for approximately 18 weeks. We are looking for someone who can commit to the project for its full duration through to completion. Candidates must therefore be available to remain on the project should the programme extend beyond the anticipated 18-week period.
This position is available on a subcontract basis only.
The rate of pay is negotiable and will be dependent on experience.
Although the project is not due to commence until the last week of October, we are looking to appoint the successful Site Manager as soon as possible. As this is an education-sector project, an Enhanced DBS check will be required and must be applied for through R1 Construction in advance. Early appointment is therefore important to allow sufficient time for the DBS process to be completed before the agreed start date.
Applications are encouraged as soon as possible due to the pre-start DBS requirements.
The Role
The role involves managing the day-to-day running of the site, coordinating subcontractors and site teams, maintaining health and safety standards, monitoring the programme and ensuring the project is delivered to the required quality and timescales.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage day-to-day site operations
- Coordinate subcontractors and site teams
- Ensure health and safety compliance
- Monitor programme progress and maintain site reporting
- Maintain quality standards and building regulation compliance
- Liaise with clients, suppliers and internal teams
- Proactively identify and resolve site issues
- Ensure works are progressing in line with the project programme
Essential Requirements
- SMSTS qualification
- First Aid at Work
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills
- Good knowledge of construction methods and regulations
- Ability to effectively manage subcontractors and site teams
- Availability to commit to the project through to completion
- Willingness to complete the required Enhanced DBS application process promptly following appointment
Desired Experience
- Minimum 5 years' experience as a Site Manager
- CSCS Black Card
- New build experience
- Experience working on education-sector projects
- Timber frame construction experience
- Asbestos Awareness
Enhanced DBS Requirement
An Enhanced DBS check is required for this project and must be applied for through R1 Construction in advance of the project start date.
The successful candidate will be required to provide the necessary information and complete the application process promptly following appointment to ensure the required clearance is in place ahead of the October start.
