Information for the role of Volunteer Gardener
Flexible hours (unpaid voluntary position)
We are seeking volunteers who are keen to gain first-hand experience of how the historic Gardens at Downing College, Cambridge are cared for and managed.
Volunteering with the Garden's team is open to adults from a variety of backgrounds. No prior experience is required. This opportunity is for individuals who wish to:
- Begin a career in horticulture.
- Gain valuable experience to strengthen their CV.
- Enjoy gardening as a recreational activity, especially if they do not have access to a garden at home.
- Support their personal wellbeing through time spent outdoors and in nature.
Details of the role
The volunteer will have the opportunity to:
- Support the Gardens Team with a variety of seasonal tasks.
- Assist in maintaining planting beds, lawns, and landscaped areas.
- Contribute to the upkeep and development of the College grounds
- Learn practical horticultural skills in a hands-on environment.
Volunteering hours are flexible and available between 7:30 am and 4:00 pm, Monday to Friday.
We will provide all tools and necessary equipment, comprehensive training, and a free lunch on site.
