Little Rascals is seeking an experienced, knowledgeable and enthusiastic Level 3 Practitioner to join our team as a Room Leader (Job Share). This role supports the senior management team in the day‑to‑day running of the room and leads practice whenever the Deputy Manager is covering office duties or is otherwise unavailable. We actively promote in‑house progression, with further career development opportunities available.
Purpose of the Role
The Room Leader (Job Share) works as part of the middle management team, supporting the smooth and effective running of a designated room in line with the EYFS. The role requires a holistic understanding of nursery operations, ensuring a happy, safe and stimulating environment for all children. The Room Leader must demonstrate professionalism, integrity, and a calm, positive attitude at all times.
As part of a job‑share arrangement, both Room Leaders will work collaboratively to ensure consistency, high standards, and continuity of care. When the Deputy Manager is completing office duties, the Room Leader will take responsibility for leading the room and supporting staff.
Key ResponsibilitiesParents & Carers
- Plan and oversee settling‑in visits for new children.
- Welcome new families and introduce them to nursery procedures and systems.
- Ensure parents/carers are aware of My Schools App, social media platforms, and information booklets.
- Explain Tapestry and the EYFS, supporting parents to access and understand their child’s learning journey.
- Complete initial assessments during pre‑visit appointments.
- Oversee staff assessments and monitoring.
- Organise additional settling‑in sessions where needed.
- Observe new starters and allocate an appropriate Key Worker.
- Build strong, positive relationships with parents/carers and remain available for support and advice.
- Share daily information regarding activities, learning, meals and wellbeing.
- Provide suggestions for home learning linked to nursery activities.
- Report any concerns immediately to the Safeguarding Lead or Management.
- Plan termly parents’ evenings using the consultation format.
- Oversee staff communication with parents/carers and ensure feedback is consistent and professional.
Children’s Wellbeing & Learning
- Build positive relationships with all children and families.
- Use observation skills to assess children within the EYFS, monitor development, and set appropriate next steps.
- Oversee the provision board daily and ensure strong links with outdoor learning.
- Report any concerns regarding children, parents/carers or staff to the Safeguarding Lead/Management immediately.
- Maintain high standards of health and safety at all times.
- Provide a caring, stimulating environment indoors and outdoors, ensuring inclusive practice and removing barriers to learning.
- Adhere to all policies and procedures and complete in‑house training to Gold level.
- Ensure the nursery consistently meets Ofsted requirements.
Staff Leadership
- Work as a job‑share team leader to build a strong, loyal and motivated staff team.
- Support staff training and help identify training needs within the room.
- Monitor apprentices and liaise with the Manager/Mentor.
- Provide ongoing support, guidance and leadership.
- Lead planning, displays and room organisation.
- Organise outings and charity events.
- Promote high standards and positive morale.
- Manage staff time effectively to allow completion of paperwork/Tapestry.
- Complete spot checks (planning, profiles, trackers).
- Address staffing issues appropriately and involve management when required.
- Provide cover in cases of absence.
- Ensure all records are maintained accurately (registers, accidents, room checks).
- Observe staff practice, set targets and support performance management.
- Ensure routines, policies and procedures are consistently followed.
Managerial Duties
- Be familiar with all relevant documentation and procedures.
- Check that all children have up‑to‑date documentation (PIN numbers, Tapestry profiles, trackers, index cards, medical forms, coat pegs etc.).
- Attend senior meetings, parents’ evenings and nursery events.
- Organise and lead room meetings.
- Liaise closely with management to ensure smooth room operation.
- Oversee new starters, staff practice, policies and procedures.
- Complete daily room and outdoor checks.
- Maintain performance management processes.
- Carry out any additional duties required by management to support the smooth running of the nursery.
