Job description
The Purpose of the Post
- Provide a high standard of child care and education for children in the Early Years.
- Give assistance, support and guidance to other staff and parents.
- Implement the daily routine.
- Ensure provision of a safe and healthy environment for both children and adults.
Key Areas
- Education and care of children in the early years.
- All candidates must have at least a level 3 in childcare.
Accountability
You are responsible and accountable for your own actions; however your chain of command is as follows:
- In the first instance report to your Team Supervisor.
- If you feel you can’t talk to the Team Supervisor or they are unable to help you, report to the Team Leader.
- More serious issues should be referred directly to the Assistant Manager or the Manager.
- In exceptional circumstances you can ask for an appointment with the Company Director.
Main duties and responsibilities
Education and Care of Children in the Early Years
- Develop a sound knowledge of the Early Years Foundation Stage and implement its contents.
- Take responsibility for observations, record keeping and planning future learning for your key children.
- Keep up to date development records for all your key children in accordance with the system used by the nursery.
- Together with other team members and senior staff, provide and implement a program of activities suitable for the age and developmental stages of the children in your base.
- Act as a good role model to the children in your care and uphold the high principals of the nursery at all times.
- Ensure a high standard of care for young children by being aware of and providing for their individual needs at all times.
- Show understanding and respect for the diversity and differing needs of all children and create a high quality environment which meets their individual needs.
- Create a warm and safe environment for the children in your care.
- Be polite, helpful and supportive to children’s parents and other family members.
- Be prepared to answer questions and give advice to parents when requested, to the best of your knowledge. Alternatively seek the assistance of senior staff.
- Develop a sound knowledge of the key principles of safeguarding and child protection and be diligent in ensuring the safety of all children. Ensure that all concerns or incidents are referred to your Team Supervisor and reported to a Manager.
- Keep all information, both written and verbal, with regard to children strictly confidential.
- You are an educator and as such are responsible for children’s learning. Take every opportunity to develop and extend activities and encourage children to develop new skills and knowledge.
- Where children have English as an additional language or other difficulties in communication, it is your responsibility to work with parents, colleagues and other professionals to aid their development and maximise learning.
