Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Cook to join our small 18 bed care home. The ideal candidate will be responsible for preparing nutritious, tasty traditional meals tailored to the dietary requirements of residents. This role offers an opportunity to make a positive impact on residents’ wellbeing through high-quality food preparation and service. The successful applicant will have a passion for culinary arts, excellent food safety knowledge, and experience working in a care home or similar environment. Responsibilities
- Prepare and cook daily meals in accordance with dietary plans and nutritional guidelines
- Ensure all food is prepared to high standards of quality, presentation, and taste
- Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the kitchen area in line with food safety regulations
- Assist in planning menus that cater to residents' specific dietary needs and preferences
- Manage stock levels, order supplies as needed, and minimise waste
- Serve meals in a courteous and professional manner, ensuring residents receive prompt attention
- Adhere strictly to health and safety standards throughout all food preparation activities
- Record temperature checks and maintain accurate documentation of food safety procedures
- Support other kitchen staff as required during busy periods or special events
- Follow 4 weekly menu
Qualifications
- Proven experience in food preparation and cooking, preferably within a care home or healthcare setting
- Strong knowledge of food safety standards and hygiene practices
- Experience with meal preparation for individuals with special dietary requirements is desirable
- Previous kitchen or restaurant experience is advantageous but not essential if accompanied by relevant culinary skills
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure while maintaining attention to detail
- Good organisational skills with the ability to manage time effectively
- Friendly, caring attitude with excellent communication skills
- Basic understanding of serving procedures and customer service principles
