We are seeking an experienced and versatile Handyman/woman to manage and carry out all aspects of day-to-day building repairs and maintenance within The Grand Hotel. This hands-on role is crucial to ensuring the general maintenance duties are done on time and keep the hotel operations running seamlessly. You will be responsible for a wide range of tasks, from minor fixes to coordinating larger projects during your employment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform general building maintenance, repairs, and improvements across all hotel areas (e.g., guest rooms, bar, public areas, back-of-house).
- Carry out plumbing repairs (e.g., leaky taps, toilet issues).
- Undertake basic electrical tasks (e.g., replacing light fittings, fault finding - within competence and regulations).
- Execute carpentry work (e.g., door repairs, furniture assembly/repair, skirting boards).
- Complete plastering, painting, and decorating tasks.
- Conduct tiling and minor flooring repairs.
- Oversee and manage external contractors for specialized repairs or larger projects, ensuring work is completed to standard and on time.
- Proactively identify and report maintenance issues.
- Maintain accurate records of all repair and maintenance activities.
- Manage and procure building materials and tools, ensuring stock levels are maintained.
- Respond promptly to maintenance requests from staff and guests.
- Ensure all work complies with health and safety regulations, building codes, and hotel standards.
- Assist with other general handyman duties as required.
Skills & Experience:
- Proven experience as a Handyman/woman or Maintenance Operative, preferably within a hotel or similar commercial environment.
- Strong practical skills across multiple trades (e.g., plumbing, carpentry, painting, basic electrics).
- Ability to diagnose problems and implement effective solutions efficiently.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills to prioritise tasks.
- Understanding of UK health and safety regulations relevant to building maintenance.
