Job Purpose
The Facilities Technician is responsible for supporting the day-to-day maintenance, safety, and operational condition of all buildings and facilities across the Manchester, Oldham and Bolton campuses. The role involves carrying out general DIY and maintenance tasks, assisting with repairs, and ensuring that all sites remain safe, clean, and operational for staff, students, and visitors.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out general DIY and maintenance works across all campus buildings.
- Perform routine inspections to ensure buildings and facilities are safe and in good operational condition.
- Work in line with the daily, monthly, quarterly, and annual maintenance plans.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records and complete all required documentation and record keeping.
- Report maintenance issues, hazards, or defects to the Facilities Supervisor.
- Complete minor repairs including basic plumbing, painting, carpentry, and general upkeep tasks.
- Support with moving furniture, setting up rooms, and maintaining campus facilities.
- Ensure health and safety standards are followed at all times.
- Assist with emergency maintenance issues when required.
- Work must be dynamically risk assessed for the safety and un-interruption of students
- Maintain tools, equipment, and maintenance storage areas in a safe and tidy condition.
- Travel between Manchester, Oldham and Bolton campuses as required.
- Support contractors and external service providers when on site.
- Carry out any other reasonable duties requested by the Facilities Supervisor.
Expenses
Reasonable travel expenses incurred whilst travelling between campuses or carrying out work-related duties can be claimed in line with the organisation’s expenses policy.
Person Specification
Essential Requirements
- Basic DIY and maintenance skills.
- Basic knowledge of building maintenance and repair work.
- Previous experience in a maintenance, caretaker, or facilities role.
- Good practical problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good communication skills.
- Reliable, punctual, and hardworking.
- Awareness of health and safety responsibilities.
- Ability to travel between campuses.
- Full UK driving licence.
Desirable Requirements
- Experience of completing maintenance records and documentation.
Working Conditions
- The role will involve working across multiple campus locations.
- Some lifting and manual handling will be required.
- Occasional flexibility in working hours may be needed to support operational requirements.
