Hitchit (part of the Equitogs family)
Overview
We’re looking for a friendly, organised and ambitious person to take a leading role in our growing trailer and vehicle business; someone who loves dealing with customers, takes pride in doing a job properly, and is excited by the idea of helping to build something.
This is a genuinely rare opportunity. You won’t be a small cog in a big machine, you’ll be at the heart of a small, friendly, family-run team, with real responsibility from day one and the chance to make the role your own as the business grows.
About Hitchit
Hitchit is the trailer and vehicle arm of Equitogs, a family-run equestrian and country business established nearly 40 years ago. We’ve been selling Equi-Trek horse trailers and horseboxes since 2007 and have built an excellent reputation across Sussex, Surrey and Kent for honest advice and great customer service.
Last year we launched Hitchit as its own brand (hitchit.co.uk) to grow this side of the business, and we now sell leading brands including Cheval Liberté horse trailers, Debon box trailers, car transporters and plant trailers, Tiki car transporters and utility trailers, and Aodes ATVs and UTVs. Debon is currently one of the fastest-growing trailer brands in the UK and Ireland.
We’re based on a rural commercial site on the A272 alongside the Equitogs store, with an outdoor showroom, a busy workshop run by our brilliant full-time mechanic, and a brand-new website. We’re also about to launch into trailer hire and self-hire, a huge opportunity, and our ambition is simple: to be the best dealership around for these types of trailers and vehicles.
The Role
You’ll work closely with our business manager and our experienced mechanic, taking ownership of the day-to-day running of sales and the service & repair department. It’s a wonderfully varied role, part office, part outdoor showroom, part workshop (managing, not spannering!) and no two days will look the same.
Sales
- Look after sales enquiries from first contact through to handover - phone, email and face-to-face viewings on our forecourt
- Prepare quotes and estimates, raise invoices, complete DVLA submissions, registrations etc.. and put together the trailer packs that go out with every sale
- Keep the website up to date - uploading new stock (will involve light photography and videography), removing sold items, refreshing images and copy throughout
- Advertise and manage our trailers and vehicles across platforms such as eBay, Horsequest, Facebook and others
- Liaise with our external marketing partner on Google and Meta advertising
- Order stock and parts from our brands and manage stock levels so our core range is always available
- Help us research, plan and attend shows and events to promote the business
Service & Repair
- Manage the service and repair diary – taking enquiries, sending quotes and estimates, and booking work in
- Work hand-in-hand with our mechanic to plan jobs, order parts and keep everything moving
- Keep customers updated throughout, then handle handover and final payment when their trailer or vehicle is ready
- Log every job accurately so we build a complete service history for our customers
- Help us set up an email and SMS reminder system, so customers are automatically reminded when their next service is due
Workshop & Systems
- Set up and manage a cloud-based parts inventory system, including planning the physical storage in the workshop
- Help introduce a system for logging service and repair work, so everything lives in one place
- Play a key part in reorganising and modernising the workshop – new units, equipment and processes – so it runs efficiently as the team grows
And as we grow…
We’re about to launch into trailer hire and self-hire, and there’s real scope for the right person to help shape and run that side of the business too. If you’re ambitious, the opportunity here is huge! Someone could really make their stamp on this and run with it. And the timing couldn't be better! The UK's historic vehicle sector is now worth a record £7.3 billion a year, grassroots motorsport is growing, and since the towing law changed in 2021 almost any driver can tow, so the market for our trailers and transporters has never been broader.
Who We’re Looking For
- Friendly and confident with customers - you find it easy to chat to people and you genuinely care about giving great service
- Organised and able to juggle multiple things at once – sales, bookings, paperwork and a busy workshop diary
- Self-motivated, with a positive, can-do attitude and hungry to sell
- Practical, with good problem-solving skills
- Comfortable with computers, email and online sales platforms
- Willing to learn – full training will be given on our products and brands
- A full UK driving licence is essential; towing experience is a bonus, but we’ll happily train you
- Previous sales or customer service experience is important – an interest in vehicles, trailers, horses, agriculture or motorsport would be a big plus
Hours
Our site is open Monday to Saturday 9am – 5:30pm, and Saturdays are one of our busiest days for viewings, so the role will include Saturdays (with time off in the week in return).
Ideally this is a full-time role, but we’re open to starting on a part-time basis for the right person, growing into full-time as the business does. If you’re interested but unsure about hours, please do still get in touch, we’d rather find the right person and be flexible.
Salary & Benefits
- £28,000 – £34,000 basic salary, depending on experience
- Commission on every sale – the harder you go at it, the more you earn
- Full product and brand training
- Genuine career progression in a fast-growing business
- A friendly, supportive, family-run team in a lovely rural setting
