Moorwood Hotel Collection is looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Sous Chef to join the kitchen team at The Horse & Jockey in Wessington.
The Horse & Jockey is a welcoming Derbyshire village pub serving freshly prepared pub food in a relaxed and friendly setting. We are looking for someone who takes pride in producing consistently good food, enjoys being part of a hands-on team and is ready to play an important role in the day-to-day running of the kitchen.
This position would suit either an established Sous Chef or an ambitious, experienced chef ready to step into a more senior role. The exact rate will reflect your experience and the level of responsibility you are able to take on.
THE ROLE
Working closely with the Head Chef, you will help lead the kitchen team and maintain high standards across every service.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Supporting the Head Chef with the day-to-day running of the kitchen
- Leading services and taking responsibility in the Head Chef’s absence
- Preparing and cooking consistently high-quality, freshly made food
- Maintaining excellent standards of presentation and portion control
- Helping to train, develop and motivate junior members of the kitchen team
- Ensuring prep levels and kitchen organisation are ready for each service
- Supporting ordering, stock rotation, waste control and food-cost management
- Maintaining excellent food hygiene, cleanliness and health and safety standards
- Helping deliver busy weekend and Sunday services calmly and efficiently
- Contributing ideas for dishes, specials and future menu development
ABOUT YOU
We are looking for someone who:
- Has previous experience as a Sous Chef, Junior Sous Chef
- Is confident leading a kitchen service
- Has experience working with freshly prepared food
- Is reliable, organised and comfortable working under pressure
- Has strong food-safety and kitchen-hygiene knowledge
- Can communicate well and create a positive working environment
- Understands the importance of consistency, portion control and reducing waste
- Is willing to work a mixture of daytime, evening and weekend shifts
- Can reliably travel to Wessington for scheduled shifts
