About SKF Express
SKF Express is an independent transport and courier company based in Dyce, Aberdeen, specialising in same-day, dedicated and time-critical deliveries throughout the UK.
We're a small, busy team and pride ourselves on providing a genuinely personal service. Our customers know who they're speaking to, and we believe excellent communication, reliability and attention to detail are just as important as getting a delivery from A to B.
We're looking for a confident, organised and personable individual to join our team in a varied role combining customer service, sales support and transport operations.
The Role
This is a varied position that would suit someone who genuinely enjoys dealing with people, building customer relationships and getting things done.
You may currently work in customer service, a call centre, sales support, account management or a busy office environment and be looking for a role with more variety, responsibility and opportunity to develop.
You'll work closely with our Operations Coordinator and Managing Director, supporting the day-to-day running of the business while taking an active role in customer communication, sales follow-up and customer satisfaction.
You'll also learn how our transport operation works, allowing you to provide additional operational support during busy periods and take on greater responsibility as your knowledge develops.
No two days in transport are quite the same, so being able to prioritise, use your initiative and adapt when things change is important.
Customer Service & Account Support
Customer service is at the heart of this role. Responsibilities will include:
- Providing friendly, professional and efficient customer service by telephone and email.
- Responding promptly to customer enquiries and transport requests.
- Keeping customers informed and ensuring requests are followed through from enquiry to completion.
- Resolving queries quickly and professionally.
- Following up with customers and gathering feedback on our service.
- Maintaining regular contact with existing customers and helping to strengthen long-term relationships.
- Identifying opportunities where SKF Express may be able to provide additional support.
Sales & Pipeline Support
A key part of this role will be supporting our sales activity by maintaining regular contact with customers and potential customers, following up opportunities and helping to build strong, long-term relationships.
Responsibilities will include:
- Following up enquiries and potential new business opportunities.
- Making follow-up calls after email, direct-mail and marketing campaigns.
- Maintaining and updating our sales pipeline.
- Following up quotations and previous customer enquiries.
- Reconnecting with previous or inactive customers.
- Supporting customer retention and relationship-building activity.
- Carrying out customer satisfaction calls.
- Keeping accurate records of conversations, actions and future follow-ups.
- Working alongside the Managing Director on customer and sales campaigns.
This isn't a scripted or high-pressure telesales position. We're looking for someone who is naturally comfortable picking up the phone, enjoys talking to people and understands that good sales often starts with good relationships and great customer service.
Operations and Driver Fleet Support
As your knowledge develops, you'll learn more about the operational side of SKF Express and provide administrative support to our Operations Coordinator.
You'll also help us maintain the high day-to-day standards expected across our fleet and depot.
This will include supporting operational and driver administration, monitoring completion of vehicle checks, reporting defects, helping to maintain vehicle and driver records, and keeping an eye on general fleet cleanliness, depot standards and health & safety.
General Administration
You'll also assist with:
- Invoicing and associated administration.
- Processing operational paperwork.
- Maintaining accurate customer and operational records.
- General office administration.
- Providing additional support to the Operations Coordinator and Managing Director as required.
About You
For us, personality and attitude are every bit as important as previous experience.
We're looking for someone who:
- Genuinely enjoys speaking to customers and building relationships.
- Is confident and comfortable picking up the phone.
- Has excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Has a natural interest in sales and business development.
- Is organised and good at following things through.
- Takes ownership rather than waiting to be reminded.
- Has strong attention to detail.
- Is computer literate and confident learning new systems.
- Can prioritise and remain calm when things get busy.
- Uses initiative and isn't afraid to ask questions.
- Enjoys being part of a small team and is willing to help wherever needed.
- Takes pride in their work and notices when something isn't quite right.
Experience
Previous experience in any of the following would be beneficial:
- Customer service or call centre/customer contact
- Sales support or internal sales
- Account management
- Business administration
- Transport or logistics
Previous transport experience isn't essential.
We can teach you our systems and how our transport operation works. We're more interested in finding someone with the right attitude, strong communication skills and a genuine willingness to learn.
What We Offer
- Salary of £28,000 – £34,000, depending on experience.
- A varied role where no two days are quite the same.
- Full training in our systems and transport operation.
- The opportunity to develop skills across customer service, sales and transport operations.
- Increasing responsibility as your knowledge and confidence develop.
- A friendly, supportive working environment.
- The opportunity to make the role your own and have a genuine impact within a small independent business.
How to Apply
Please apply with:
- Your current CV.
- A covering letter telling us a little about yourself, why this particular role appeals to you and what you feel you could bring to SKF Express.
We'd particularly like to hear from people with experience in customer service, customer contact, sales support, account management or a call-centre environment who are looking for an opportunity to develop into a broader role.
