Job Summary
We Manage Poultry Farms in Essex and are seeking a dedicated and versatile Assistant Farm Manager to provide holiday cover and support the day-to-day operations of our farms including being on-call for alarms. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of animal care, and equipment maintenance, ensuring the smooth running of farm activities during peak periods. This role offers an excellent opportunity to apply practical skills in a dynamic agricultural environment.
Duties
- Assist with daily farm operations, including animal care, maintenance, and general farm management.
- Use hand tools, power tools, and equipment repair skills to maintain machinery and infrastructure.
- Perform heavy lifting tasks related to loading, unloading, and moving supplies or produce.
- Conduct routine maintenance and minor repairs on farm equipment and structures.
- Assist with the utilisation of mechanical systems and troubleshoot issues as they arise.
- Maintain accurate records of daily activities, supplies used, and animal health status.
- Support during busy periods such as holidays by covering additional shifts or responsibilities as needed.
Qualifications
- Practical experience in Poultry farming is desirable but not essential; a keen interest in agriculture is important.
- A Level 2 Diploma in Work Based Agriculture (Poultry) is required, however training will be given to the right candidate.
- Ability to operate hand tools, power tools, and perform basic equipment maintenance.
- Physical fitness for heavy lifting and outdoor work in varying weather conditions.
- Basic mathematical skills for measurements, calculations, and record keeping and able to operate digital apps.
- Experience with animal care including feeding routines and health monitoring preferred.
- Strong organisational skills with attention to detail in record keeping and task management.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team with a proactive attitude towards problem-solving. This position provides valuable hands-on experience in farm management with opportunities for skill development across multiple disciplines within agriculture.
Pay: £27,000.00-£30,000.00 per year
