Job Overview
We are looking for a reliable, confident and enthusiastic Kennel Hand to join our team. This is a varied position combining hands-on dog care with customer service and office administration.
The successful candidate will be someone who is confident, friendly and chatty, with a genuine love of dogs and a professional approach to customer service. You will be responsible for providing excellent care to the dogs staying with us, while also helping customers and assisting with the day-to-day running of the office.
We are open 365 days a year, so the role includes weekend and bank holiday work. The position is 35+ hours per week, working 1 in 4 weekends, with potential for additional hours.
Responsibilities
- Providing a high standard of care for all dogs staying at the kennels
- Feeding, exercising and monitoring dogs throughout their stay
- Cleaning and maintaining kennels and surrounding areas to a high standard
- Ensuring the dogs' welfare, safety and comfort at all times
- Welcoming customers and providing friendly, professional customer service
- Managing bookings and updating customer records
- Answering telephone calls and responding to emails
- Dealing confidently and professionally with customer enquiries
- Taking payments and carrying out general office administration
- Working as part of a small, busy team and assisting with the general day-to-day running of the kennels
- Working outdoors in all weather conditions
Experience
- Must be aged 20 or over
- Full driving licence and able to drive
- Previous kennel experience is preferred
- Previous experience handling or caring for dogs is highly desirable
- Customer service experience is preferred
- Confident communicating with customers face-to-face, over the phone and by email
- Comfortable using computers and carrying out basic office administration
- Good organisational skills and attention to detail
- Reliable, hardworking and able to work both independently and as part of a team
- Confident, outgoing and approachable personality
- A genuine interest in dogs and animal welfare
- Flexibility to work weekends and bank holidays as part of a 1 in 4 weekend rota
This is a hands-on role that requires someone who is happy to get stuck in, enjoys working with both dogs and people, and can maintain a professional and friendly approach in a busy environment.
Pay: £12.71 per hour
