The role
We are looking for an experienced, hands-on Performance Marketing Manager to join our marketing agency in Leicester.
The role will have two primary areas of focus: paid search and organic search performance.
You will take day-to-day ownership of Google Ads campaigns across a varied portfolio of clients, while also helping develop and deliver SEO strategies that improve visibility across both traditional search engines and emerging AI-powered search platforms.
This is a practical delivery role. We are looking for someone who is equally comfortable working inside Google Ads, analysing performance data, carrying out website optimisation, writing high-quality search-led content, and reporting results back to clients.
You will also need a strong understanding of websites and CMS platforms, particularly WordPress, enabling you to implement many recommendations yourself rather than simply producing a list of actions for others.
Experience with HubSpot or other CRM platforms would be advantageous, particularly where this involves improving lead capture, attribution and the connection between marketing activity and commercial results.
Key responsibilities
Google Ads
Google Ads will be a major part of the role.
You will:
- Plan, build, manage and optimise Google Ads campaigns across multiple client accounts.
- Manage Search, Performance Max, remarketing and other appropriate campaign types.
- Undertake keyword, audience and competitor research.
- Manage budgets, bidding strategies and targeting.
- Write and test advertising copy.
- Monitor and improve key metrics including cost per lead, conversion rate and ROAS.
- Review landing-page performance and recommend or implement improvements.
- Conduct account audits and identify areas for improvement.
- Produce clear reports and recommendations for clients.
- Work with GA4, Google Tag Manager and other analytics tools to understand the complete customer journey.
You should be able to demonstrate strong practical Google Ads experience and explain how your work has improved real commercial results.
SEO, GEO and AEO
You will help plan and deliver organic search strategies designed to increase our clients' visibility across Google and emerging AI-powered search and answer platforms.
Responsibilities will include:
- Undertaking keyword and search-intent research.
- Developing SEO strategies for client websites.
- Carrying out on-page SEO optimisation.
- Reviewing website structure, internal linking and content architecture.
- Identifying technical SEO issues and implementing or coordinating fixes.
- Undertaking competitor and content-gap analysis.
- Optimising existing content to improve search performance.
- Helping clients improve visibility within AI-powered search and large language models.
- Monitoring developments within SEO, Generative Engine Optimisation and Answer Engine Optimisation.
- Measuring organic visibility, traffic, engagement, leads and wider commercial performance.
We do not expect candidates to have years of specialist GEO or AEO experience, as these are rapidly developing disciplines. However, you should have strong SEO fundamentals, excellent content skills and a genuine interest in how search is evolving through AI.
Content
Content creation will form an important part of the role.
You should be confident:
- Researching unfamiliar industries and technical subjects.
- Identifying topics that customers are genuinely searching for.
- Developing content around search intent rather than simply keywords.
- Writing authoritative, engaging and useful website content.
- Writing SEO-focused landing pages and articles.
- Structuring content to work effectively for both human readers and search engines.
- Adapting tone of voice for different clients, industries and audiences.
Strong written English is therefore essential.
WordPress and CMS management
We are looking for someone with comprehensive practical knowledge of content management systems, particularly WordPress.
You should be comfortable working directly within client websites and undertaking day-to-day optimisation yourself.
This could include:
- Creating and editing pages and posts.
- Managing website content and page structures.
- Working with page builders such as Elementor.
- Editing metadata, headings, URLs and internal links.
- Managing redirects.
- Implementing basic schema and structured data.
- Working with SEO plugins such as Yoast or Rank Math.
- Reviewing plugins and website configuration.
- Identifying basic technical website issues.
- Briefing developers clearly where more advanced technical changes are required.
You do not need to be a web developer, but you should understand how websites work and be confident making appropriate changes within a CMS without relying on a developer for every task.
CRM and HubSpot
Experience with HubSpot or another CRM platform would be advantageous.
This could include experience of:
- Connecting website forms and enquiries with CRM systems.
- Tracking lead sources.
- Managing contact properties and lifecycle stages.
- Building basic workflows and automations.
- Improving the flow of leads between marketing and sales.
- Connecting CRM data with Google Ads and analytics platforms.
- Improving marketing attribution and reporting.
Advanced HubSpot implementation or development experience is not essential.
Analytics and reporting
You will use data to understand what is working, what is not and what should happen next.
You should be comfortable with:
- Google Analytics 4.
- Google Search Console.
- Google Ads reporting.
- Google Tag Manager.
- SEO and keyword research platforms.
- Website analytics.
- Conversion tracking.
- Looker Studio or similar reporting tools.
Most importantly, you should be able to interpret the data rather than simply report it.
Clients should come away from your reporting understanding what has happened, why it matters and what you recommend doing next.
Client management
As an agency role, you will work across multiple clients and industries.
You will:
- Build a strong understanding of each client's business and commercial objectives.
- Communicate directly with clients.
- Present campaign performance and recommendations.
- Explain technical subjects in straightforward commercial language.
- Proactively identify opportunities and areas requiring attention.
- Manage multiple campaigns and priorities at the same time.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues across account management, content, creative and web development.
About you
We are particularly interested in candidates who can demonstrate:
- At least three years' relevant digital marketing experience.
- Confidence dealing directly with clients.
- The ability to manage multiple accounts and deadlines.
- Commercial awareness and an understanding that marketing performance ultimately needs to generate meaningful business results.
Advantageous experience
Experience in any of the following would be beneficial:
- HubSpot.
- Other CRM and marketing automation platforms.
- Google Tag Manager.
- Looker Studio.
- Microsoft Advertising.
- Meta or LinkedIn advertising.
- Elementor.
- Technical SEO.
- Conversion rate optimisation.
- Agency-side digital marketing.
- B2B or considered-purchase marketing.
What we are really looking for
We are not looking for somebody who simply knows how to operate marketing platforms.
We want someone who is curious about why campaigns perform, understands how paid media, organic search, websites, content and customer data work together, and is prepared to get hands-on to improve the results.
You should be comfortable moving between analysing a Google Ads account, optimising a WordPress website, researching a search opportunity, writing a piece of content and discussing performance with a client.
Above all, you will have a strong interest in how search marketing is evolving and want to help develop an agency offering that combines traditional paid and organic search expertise with the opportunities created by AI-powered search.
