Welsh-Speaking Childhood Studies Assessor

Excell Supply is delighted to be recruiting for a Welsh-speaking Childhood Studies Assessor to join a Further Education team based in Llangefni, Anglesey.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced assessor, childcare practitioner or education professional to support learners working towards their Level 2 and Level 3 Children’s Development and Education qualifications.
The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting learners both within the college and in workplace settings, helping them develop the practical skills, underpinning knowledge and professional behaviours required to succeed within the childcare and education sector.
The role
As a Childhood Studies Assessor, you will manage a caseload of full-time Further Education learners, monitoring their progress and supporting them throughout their qualification.
You will work closely with learners, placement providers and colleagues across the Children’s Development and Education team to ensure learners receive the training, assessment and workplace opportunities they need to successfully complete their qualifications.
The role will involve a combination of workplace assessment, college-based teaching, learner support, observation and liaison with employers and other professionals.
Key responsibilities
Training and assessment
- Deliver training and assessment for Level 2 and Level 3 Children’s Development and Education programmes.
- Assess learners in workplace and college settings.
- Deliver underpinning knowledge sessions to individuals and groups.
- Provide demonstrations, one-to-one support and small-group teaching.
- Observe learners in placement settings and assess their practical skills and competency.
- Provide clear, constructive written and verbal feedback.
- Support learners to plan and prepare for assessments.
- Where appropriate, contribute to internal verification and quality assurance of assessment.
Learner support and progress
- Maintain an allocated caseload and monitor individual learner progress.
- Identify individual training and development needs.
- Provide advice, guidance and pastoral support to learners.
- Encourage learners to take ownership of their learning and professional development.
- Support learners to recognise their own strengths and areas for development.
- Conduct regular progress reviews and maintain accurate records.
- Ensure learners can complete and provide evidence in their preferred language, Welsh or English.
- Provide effective induction and prepare learners for their work placements.
Workplace and employer engagement
- Build and maintain positive relationships with childcare and education placement providers.
- Visit placement settings to carry out observations and assessments.
- Work collaboratively with employers to ensure learners receive appropriate training and development opportunities.
- Support employers in understanding the learner’s qualification requirements.
- Monitor health, safety and wellbeing within placement settings.
- Address and report any concerns appropriately.
- Provide peripatetic assessment and support across placement settings where required.
Quality assurance and administration
- Maintain accurate and timely learner and assessment records.
- Ensure all required documentation is completed and submitted within agreed timescales.
- Contribute to internal quality assurance and verification processes.
- Review, develop and, where appropriate, verify or countersign assessment work.
- Participate fully in college quality procedures and policies.
- Comply with awarding body, college and external organisation requirements.
- Maintain confidentiality and handle learner information appropriately.
- Contribute to meetings, professional development and updating activities.
Safeguarding and professional practice
- Follow college policies relating to safeguarding, health and safety, equality and diversity.
- Promote a safe, inclusive and supportive learning environment.
- Report safeguarding, health and safety or other concerns promptly.
- Maintain high standards of professional conduct and appearance.
- Reflect on and continually develop your own professional practice.
- Work flexibly to meet the needs of learners, employers and college programmes.
About you

- Experience within Childcare, Childhood Studies, Education or a related sector.
- Experience of assessing, teaching, training or supporting learners.
- Knowledge of workplace-based assessment and vocational qualifications.

- Strong organisational and time-management abilities.
- The ability to manage a caseload and work independently.
- Experience of working collaboratively with employers and placement providers.
- A commitment to learner development and achievement.
- A strong understanding of safeguarding, equality and health and safety.
- Fluency in both Welsh and English.
