About Coda Octopus Products
Coda Octopus Products Ltd designs, manufactures and supports advanced underwater technologies for the marine survey, offshore, defence and security sectors. Our products include industry-leading real-time 3D sonar systems, inertial navigation systems, augmented reality diving technologies and subsea positioning solutions.
We are seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our Edinburgh-based engineering team.
This is a hands-on role involving the design, analysis, prototyping and development of underwater systems, rugged electronics enclosures, precision navigation equipment and subsea pressure housings. Working closely with electronics, software and systems engineers, you will contribute throughout the product lifecycle, from concept and prototyping through to manufacture and product support.
Education
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or higher
- Minimum 7 years' relevant industry experience
Required Skills & Experience
- Advanced SolidWorks proficiency
- Design of machined, sheet metal and 3D-printed components
- Mechanical design of rugged electronic systems and assemblies
- Thermal management, material selection and engineering analysis
- Design for Manufacture (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA)
- Creation of engineering drawings, BOMs, assembly procedures and manufacturing documentation
- Experience with design release, configuration control and engineering change processes
- Hands-on prototyping using additive manufacturing, 3D printing and CNC-based rapid prototyping techniques
- Experience working with suppliers, fabrication shops and manufacturing partners
- Knowledge of relevant industry and military standards
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills
Desirable Skills & Experience
- Underwater systems and sonar equipment
- Pressure housing and subsea enclosure design
- Electronics packaging and rugged enclosure design
- Environmental sealing and ingress protection
- FEA, shock and vibration analysis
- Marine, offshore or defence product development
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop mechanical components, assemblies and enclosures for new and existing products
- Develop solutions for subsea systems, rugged electronics packaging and thermal management
- Create and maintain 3D models, drawings, BOMs and manufacturing documentation
- Prepare engineering release packages for production
- Develop, assemble and evaluate prototypes
- Support testing, qualification and product verification activities
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams throughout product development
- Support manufacturing, suppliers and engineering change activities
- Contribute innovative ideas to future product developments
