SEMH Teaching Assistant In an Alternative Provision:
An SEMH school in Tameside is looking for full time teaching assistants to work with children from 11-16 years old with a wide range of learning needs including Social Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH). These students have arrived at the school having had a challenging experience at mainstream schools and therefore may display some challenging behaviours. It’s therefore essential that staff are confident, compassionate and will go that extra mile for these students who really need it.
The ideal PRU teaching assistant for this role should:
- Have experience, or a passion for working with students with challenging behaviour or within a PRU environment
- Have knowledge or understanding of how to apply therapeutic interventions within a SEMH context
- Have experience, training in or at least awareness of applying Team Teach or ACES
- Be flexible, proactive and patient
- Be nurturing in their approaching and interventions
- Be able to communicate effectively within a team
- Be committed to working full time
- Have a Background in Education, Care, Social work, Psychology or Drama, as these are very transferable.
