Ten Tors Lead

The Maynard School is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Ten Tors Lead to join our vibrant Outdoor Education team from September 2026.
Outdoor Education is an important and much-loved part of life at The Maynard. We have a strong tradition of participation in the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award and a successful Ten Tors programme, with teams consistently oversubscribed in both the 35 and 45 Mile categories. We are looking for someone who can help us build on this success and inspire the next generation of young people through challenge, teamwork and adventure.
Working alongside the Outdoor Education Coordinator, the Ten Tors Lead will help design, organise and deliver our 35 and 45 Mile Ten Tors programmes. The role will include leading training, supporting pupils and staff, contributing to expeditions and competitions, and ensuring that appropriate risk assessments, operational plans and equipment are in place.
We are looking for someone with a genuine passion for outdoor education, experience of working with young people and a strong background in outdoor activities and leadership. A Mountain Leader qualification, or equivalent, is expected, together with a portfolio of relevant outdoor qualifications. We recognise that candidates may not meet every criterion and will provide training and development for the right person.
This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in a thriving outdoor education programme within a warm, ambitious and supportive school community. The role is part time, with a typical term-time commitment of one day per week, alongside weekend training and approximately 30 expedition days across the year, including UK and overseas expeditions.
The Maynard has its own support staff salary scale.
