Job title: Parts Specialist
Location: Blackwell, Derbyshire (J28, M1)
Hours: This role operates on an alternating shift patten to support our workshop operation.
Monday to Friday : Week 1: 05:30hrs – 14:00hrs. Week 2: 12:00hrs – 20:30hrs. (Monday – Friday shifts include 30 minutes unpaid break.)
In addition, you will be required to work one Saturday morning in every four, 05:30 – 12:00.

Operating from our modern workshop facility in Blackwell, H.W. Martin Fleet Maintenance is one of the region’s leading independent commercial vehicle maintenance providers. We support an expanding portfolio of external fleet operators alongside the H.W. Martin Group’s own vehicle and plant assets, delivering maintenance and repair services for HGVs, trailers, light commercial vehicles, municipal fleets, plant and specialist equipment.
Due to continued investment and growth, we are looking to recruit an experienced Parts Specialist to join our Parts Department.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced commercial vehicle Parts Specialist who enjoys working in a fast-paced engineering environment where no two days are the same.
As part of our continued investment in the Parts Department, you’ll play a key role in supporting one of the UK’s most diverse commercial vehicle maintenance operations while helping us build a modern, commercially focused parts function.
What you’ll be doing:
- Procuring parts and consumables required to support our busy commercial vehicle workshop.
- Supplying technicians with the correct parts, first time, to maximise workshop productivity and minimise vehicle downtime.
- Identifying components using manufacturer electronic parts catalogues and technical information systems.
- Managing Vehicle Off Road (VOR) requirements, sourcing urgent parts quickly and cost-effectively.
- Building and maintaining strong relationships with manufacturers and suppliers to achieve the best availability, pricing and service.
- Obtaining quotations, negotiating with suppliers and making commercially sound purchasing decisions.
- Working closely with Service Advisors, Workshop Controllers and Technicians to ensure repair estimates are accurate and parts are available when required.
- Monitoring outstanding orders and proactively chasing suppliers to ensure promised delivery dates are achieved.
- Identifying alternative supply routes where appropriate to reduce cost and improve vehicle availability.
- Taking ownership of every parts requirement from initial request through to successful supply, ensuring our workshop has what it needs, when it needs it.
- Supporting continuous improvement by challenging existing purchasing practices and identifying opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
What we’re looking for:
The successful candidate will have:
- Previous experience in a commercial vehicle parts environment.
- HGV parts experience is highly desirable.
- Experience within plant, construction equipment, agricultural machinery or light commercial vehicles would also be advantageous.
- Strong knowledge of manufacturer electronic parts catalogues.
- Excellent organisational and time management skills.
- A proactive, customer-focused approach with strong commercial awareness.
- The ability to work under pressure whilst maintaining high levels of accuracy.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to build effective working relationships.
