Why Move Fresh?
This is an opportunity to take genuine ownership of quality and compliance rather than becoming one part of a large technical department. Own quality, food safety and environmental compliance for a growing food & drink logistics business.
You will work directly with senior management and operational teams, have visibility across the business and play an important role in ensuring Move Fresh continues to develop its standards as the company grows.
We are looking for someone who can combine technical credibility with commercial and operational common sense.
If you are an experienced Quality Manager, QA Manager or Technical Manager looking for broader ownership and the opportunity to make a visible impact, we would like to hear from you.
Move Fresh is looking for an experienced Quality and Environment Manager to take ownership of our established food safety, quality and environmental management systems across our Livingston warehouse operations.
This is a hands-on management role with genuine responsibility. You will own and continually improve our AA-rated BRCGS-certified management system, lead our HACCP programme and work closely with operational and commercial teams to ensure that high standards of food safety, quality and compliance are maintained throughout the business.
Reporting directly to the Managing Director, you will have the autonomy to lead the quality agenda while remaining closely connected to day-to-day warehouse operations.
The role:
You will be responsible for maintaining and developing the systems that underpin food safety, quality, environmental and wider compliance across Move Fresh.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Owning, maintaining and continually improving our BRCGS-certified food safety and quality management system, ensuring continuous audit readiness.
- Overall responsibility for HACCP, including leading the HACCP team and ensuring hazard analysis, prerequisite programmes, validation, verification and review remain current and effective.
- Maintaining and developing the company's environmental management system, aligned with best practice and our carbon management approach.
- Managing other relevant accreditations, registrations and approvals, including duty-suspended status, ensuring conditions, records and renewals remain compliant.
- Owning the approved supplier programme, including supplier approval, risk assessment, review, documentation and escalation of non-conformance.
- Ensuring product specifications and associated technical information are controlled, current, approved and available to the appropriate teams and clients.
- Maintaining policies and controlled documentation aligned with legal, customer, best-practice and certification requirements.
- Maintaining and delivering a risk-based internal audit programme and ensuring corrective actions are properly identified, owned and closed.
- Supporting operations in the company's health and safety compliance programme, including maintenance of documentation, recording compliance findings and supporting follow-up of corrective actions with operational management.
- Maintaining core management-system processes including document control, training records, traceability, corrective action and compliance records.
- Using audit findings, complaints, non-conformances and operational data to identify and lead continuous improvement activity.
- Supporting commercial and operational colleagues with technical, quality and compliance matters, including client requirements.
- Helping develop a strong culture of food safety, quality, sustainability, compliance and continuous improvement throughout the business.
About you
We are looking for someone who is comfortable taking ownership rather than simply administering a quality system.
You should have:
- Practical experience maintaining a certified food safety and quality management system, including audit, corrective action and document control.
- HACCP knowledge and sufficient experience and competence to lead the HACCP team and take overall responsibility for the HACCP system.
- A relevant degree or HND, or equivalent industry experience.
- An Intermediate HACCP qualification or equivalent appropriate for HACCP Team Leader responsibility.
- Internal audit training, ideally IRCA or equivalent.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage controlled documentation and compliance records accurately.
- The confidence to work autonomously and influence operational colleagues at all levels.
- A pragmatic approach to compliance, with the ability to distinguish between maintaining standards and creating unnecessary bureaucracy.
Experience in a BRCGS-certified food storage, distribution, logistics or manufacturing environment would be particularly valuable.
We would also welcome experience in:
- BRCGS audit preparation and corrective action management.
- Internal auditing.
- Supplier assurance and specification management.
- Temperature-controlled food logistics.
- External audits.
- Health and safety compliance monitoring.
- Continuous improvement.
