Fancy Help to Run the Show at Two of Our Favourite Spots?
Grub Fresh Food, Spital (Old Aberdeen) & Schoolhill (City Centre)
Let's be honest, most job ads read like they were written by a printer running out of ink. This isn't one of those.
We're Grub. We've got sites dotted across the city, but this role's all about two of them: Spital, tucked into the heart of Old Aberdeen, and Schoolhill, right in the thick of the city centre. Both takeaway-focused, both properly community-led. We're not chasing some polished chain vibe. We're the place regulars pop into on the way to lectures, on a lunch break, or just because they fancy something good and fast. Community first, queue out the door second.
You'd be joining our small team of supervisors, working under our dual site manager to keep Spital and Schoolhill running exactly as they should. It's a job that needs someone who can hold their own without hand-holding, but you won't be doing it in isolation. There's a proper team behind you.
So What's the Job, Really?
Basically, you're one of the people who makes sure Grub *is* Grub, on both sites, every single day. This isn't a sit-down-and-relax kind of café. It's quick hands, quick decisions, and a queue that doesn't wait around, so you'll need to be someone who moves with it, not someone who gets flustered by it.
That means:
- Running the counter and the kitchen like you own the place: light food prep, takeaway service, customers, all of it, across Spital *and* Schoolhill
- Supporting and steering your team on shift: get them fired up, not burnt out
- Food safety that's second nature, not an afterthought scribbled on a checklist
- Keeping stock sorted so we never have that "we've run out of wraps at 11am" conversation again
- Helping train new starters properly, not just throwing them in and hoping for the best
- Sorting out customer curveballs with a smile and zero drama; regulars notice, and regulars talk
- Working closely with our dual site manager and the rest of the supervisor team to keep both sites singing from the same sheet
You'll be busy. You'll be trusted. You'll actually matter, to us and to the folk who rely on Grub being there every day.
Now, the Fun Bit
Here's where this role gets interesting.
We want Grub's social media to feel like Grub, not some sanitised, stock-photo version of a café. Real food, real regulars, real Old Aberdeen and city centre energy. And for that, we need a real person willing to be part of it.
If you've got even a flicker of interest in content: filming the madness of the lunchtime rush, showing off what's fresh that day, being on camera without turning into a deer in headlights, coming up with ideas that make people actually stop scrolling, we want to hear about it. This isn't a "do it if you feel like it" extra. We're looking for someone who wants to grow *with* us long-term, and who'd genuinely enjoy helping Grub feel like part of the community online, the same way we are on the street.
You don't need a ring light and a media degree. You just need to be up for it.
What You'll Need to Bring
- Real supervisor or team management experience in hospitality
- Genuine food handling and prep skills or the interest to learn. This is light prep and assembly, not full-on cooking, so speed and consistency matter more than culinary flair
- Solid grip on food safety and food production standards.
- Barista skills: great if you've got them, teachable if you don't
- Leadership that actually leads on shift; people should want to work *with* you, not just for you
- Comfortable juggling stock, basic equipment, and the general pace of a busy cafe
- A genuine spark for social media and content creation. Camera-shy need not apply
Why Bother Working for Grub?
Because we don't do boring, and we don't do corporate. You'll be working across two of our sites, two neighbourhoods, two communities that actually know our name, as part of a proper supervisor team, backed by our dual site manager, and connected to something bigger across the city. We back our people properly, we don't sweat the small stuff, and we want the people who work here to genuinely enjoy it, not just survive it.
Plus, you'll get to help shape what Grub looks like to the world, not just what it tastes like.
