Overall purpose of Role:
The emphasis of the role is the safe execution of daily operations and tactical objectives. The focus of the Warehouse Team Leader role will be to lead the Warehouse Operators to work together safely and efficiently to deliver the budgeted daily and weekly performance in accordance with an agreed weekly plan, controlling all direct and indirect costs to, or better than, budget values.
Background
An experienced and engaging direct line manager with proven success in leading large operational teams within a warehousing, FMCG or logistics environment. Able to work flexibly and with energy to motivate reports, whilst also collaborating efficiently with peers as part of the day-to-day management team.
Technical Experience
Formal Management Qualification and/or several years experience of management in a warehousing or FMCG environment
Intermediate PC Skills - Formula and graphs in excel, import photographs in PowerPoint, high standard of document production and report writing
Health, Safety & Environment
IOSH Managing Safely or ablility and willingness to work towards this
Trained, competent and experienced in risk assessments and safe working practice
Solid knowledge of HSE legislation
Knowledge of working at a COMAH site desirable
Continuous Improvement
Continuous Improvement Experience (Green or Yellow Belt) desirable but not essential
Leadership
Demonstrable experience in leading, developing, managing and motivating teams

Main Responsibilities:
1. Working as part of a team to ensure that all activities on site are carried out in accordance with the relevant work instruction, adhering to the necessary Company health, safety and environmental requirements and complying with all regulatory current legislation to maintain a safe working environment for all employees.
2. Ensuring Safety is a priority at all times and lead by example safety behaviours. Investigating accidents and incidents and generating accident and incident reports where required.
3. Maintaining an awareness of the regulatory and Company standards that apply to the role such as HMRC, COMAH and H&S. COMAH specific - Understand and act as Incident Controller in the event of an evacuation or major incident, and regularly participate in COMAH improvement activity. If trained, be prepared to act as Event Recorder where required. The Warehouse Team Leader is also part of the Site Emergency Response rota.
4. Leading all cask handling, storage, movement and associated activities on site in accordance with the relevant work instructions, ensuring that all operations are coordinated in absolute compliance with all Company and Statutory requirements, including HMRC, COMAH, HS&E and ISO9001.
5. Daily communication with all stakeholders regarding progress against the department’s requirements and KPIs, resolving any required corrective actions through tiered management process.
6. Checking that all day-to-day activities of the Warehousing colleagues are performed in an efficient and cost effective timely manner, in accordance with the relevant work instructions, reviewing individual and team performance against relevant KPIs.
7. Line management responsibility for all Warehousing colleagues, monitoring progress through annual Performance Focus Reviews and supporting training development.
8. Ensuring that all quality, regulatory and compliance checks and the relevant paperwork involved is completed and signed off.
9. Ensuring the operation is carried out in line with the Department procedures and that these documents are maintained to reflect any changes in process (QMS62).
10. Leading team based HR activities such as employee interviews, including Return to Work, Absence Management Reviews and Disciplinaries, implementing the necessary actions and outcomes required.
11. Ensuring that all work instructions and risk assessments tasks are reviewed with safety process audits undertaken.
12. Being prepared to support, upskill, cover and learn other key operational areas in Warehouse Operations and supporting Teamwork within the wider Operations team.
13. Leading all operational daily activities through continuous improvement such as Tier meetings, team performance, process improvement opportunities, reducing waste and ensuring 5S compliance.
14. Undertake any training or qualifications that are required to fulfil your role competently and/or to meet changing legislative and safety requirements.
15. Lead and support continuous improvement activities to deliver productivity and cost efficiencies and improve operational performance.
16. Any other duties that may reasonably be required in line with your contractual role.
Founded in 1885, The North British Distillery Company Ltd (North British) is one of Scotland’s oldest and largest Scotch Whisky producers. We originally operated under the structure of a co-operative until 1993 and are now owned as a joint venture between Diageo plc and The Edrington Group.
We are a distillation and maturation business selling grain spirit which is used as the base for blended Scotch Whisky by many well-known brands. The Distillery is based in Gorgie (Edinburgh) and this site is responsible for the production of new-make spirit, producing a by-product of animal feed, and energy via an Anaerobic Digestion plant. Our main Warehousing site is based in Muirhall (Addiewell, West Lothian), with 15 maturation warehouses and responsibility for bonding, storage and disgorging.
