To provide, in conjunction with consultant colleagues, a comprehensive Sexual Health service across Northumberland and North Tyneside localities.
- To deliver Genitourinary Medicine, HIV outpatient and Contraception services in keeping with competencies and experience.
- To work with professional colleagues and local managers to ensure the efficient running of the Sexual Health Service.
- To share, with other practitioners, the medical contribution to Service management and leadership.
- To participate in the management of change to ensure a responsive and flexible service and to enable all staff to adapt and contribute fully.
- To provide advice to GPs and other medical and non-medical staff, internally and externally.
- To support specialist nurses in the delivery of the nurse-led, service model.
- To prescribe and issue prescription-only medicines and support nursing staff with the use and development of Patient Group Directions.
- To contribute to appropriate health promotion and education within the clinic.
To ensure good clinical governance and participate in local audit and quality improvement activity.
- To contribute to teaching and education in order to improve access to sexual health services.
- To actively participation in annual appraisal and CPD activities and complete personal CPD programme in accordance with Royal College guidance.

- Registered Medical Practitioner with GMC.
Evidence of post-graduate education, knowledge and clinical skills in the sexual health field.
- Assist the GUM Consultants in positive STI related management.
- Provide consultations within contraceptive/sexual health clinics including:
o Full screening and management of STIs (sexually transmitted infections)
o Management of new and review patients using PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis)
o Vaccination programmes such as Hepatitis B and HPV (Human Papilloma Virus)
o Issuing contraception (first issue, repeat or change of contraception) after taking history, appropriate measurements and requesting appropriate investigations.
o Following training:
§ Insertion and removal of intrauterine devices including using local anaesthetic.
§ Management of IUD (intrauterine device) problems I difficult insertions and removals.
§ Insertion and removal of subdermal contraceptive implants.
§ Performing cervical smears.
o Referral of patients within and without the Sexual Health Service for pregnancy management.
o Offering sexual health advice (including telephone advice).
o Offering sexual health advice (including telephone advice) to staff working within Northumberland and North Tyneside.
o Involvement in the management of new and review patients living with HIV.
- Be aware of, and adhere to, the safeguarding guidelines and procedures of the Trust and the Safeguarding Team.
- Engage in the further development of the DFSRH and LARC (Long-acting reversible contraception) training within Northumbria Healthcare Sexual Health Service as appropriate.
