Overview: We are seeking a compassionate, dedicated, and skilled Job Coach to assist individuals with autism in navigating and thriving in their work environments. The ideal candidate will provide personalised, practical, and proactive support to individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and other recognised disabilities to help them succeed in their jobs, develop professional skills, and foster long-term career growth.
Key Responsibilities:
- Workplace Integration: Assist individuals with autism in acclimating to their work environments, including job-specific tasks, workplace culture, and social interactions.
- Job Coaching: Provide on-the-job coaching to support individuals in learning and refining job-specific skills. Offer hands-on guidance in task management, time management, and workplace communication.
- Accommodations & Adjustments: Collaborate with employers to identify and implement reasonable accommodations that enable the employee to perform their role effectively and comfortably.
- Social Skills Training: Help individuals with autism develop and improve workplace social skills, including communication with colleagues, supervisors, and clients, understanding workplace dynamics, and conflict resolution.
- Job Retention Support: Monitor progress and provide ongoing support to help individuals maintain their positions, addressing any challenges that arise in the workplace.
- Career Development: Work with individuals to identify career goals, growth opportunities, and paths to advancement. Assist with skill-building, certifications, and educational opportunities where relevant.
- Collaboration with Employers: Partner with employers to promote awareness, understanding, and inclusivity for employees with autism. Provide guidance on best practices to create a supportive work environment.
- Regular Reporting: Track and report on individuals' progress, challenges, and successes, and provide feedback to relevant stakeholders, including families, support networks, and employers.
- Advocacy: Advocate for the needs of individuals with autism in the workplace, ensuring they have access to the resources and support they require for success.
Qualifications:
- Experience working with individuals with autism, particularly in employment settings (preferred).
- Strong knowledge of autism spectrum disorder and related accommodations.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with individuals, families, and employers.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple cases and tasks efficiently.
