Solicitor – Commercial Litigation
Chester | Office-based | Part-time, 19.5 hours per week over 3 days | 6-month fixed-term contract | Potential to become permanent
Elysium Law is looking for a Solicitor to join our small, specialist team in Chester on an initial 6-month fixed-term contract.
The role is part-time, working 3 days per week at 6.5 hours per day, giving a total of 19.5 hours per week. The days will be fixed initially, although some flexibility may be available by agreement. The role is office-based in Chester.
We are looking for a lawyer with around 3–5 years’ post-qualification experience, or equivalent, although we are open to candidates with more or less experience if they have the right litigation background and practical approach.
The role will focus primarily on commercial litigation, with wider involvement in contract disputes, professional negligence claims and general commercial matters. Experience in trusts and/or tax-related work would be an advantage.
The role
The successful candidate will assist with and manage a varied caseload, including:
- Commercial and contractual disputes;
- Professional negligence claims;
- Pre-action correspondence and dispute strategy;
- Drafting pleadings, witness statements and settlement documentation;
- Reviewing and advising on contracts and commercial issues;
- Client advice and file management;
- Liaising with counsel, experts and opponents;
- Supporting the wider team on trust and/or tax-related matters where relevant.
This is a hands-on role in a small practice. We are looking for someone who can work with a good level of autonomy, manage matters efficiently and provide clear, practical advice to clients.
The candidate
We are looking for someone who is:
- A qualified Solicitor;
- Ideally around 3–5 years’ PQE or equivalent;
- Experienced in commercial litigation and dispute resolution;
- Confident with contract disputes and professional negligence matters;
- Able to work independently and manage files with appropriate supervision;
- A clear and careful drafter;
- Commercially minded, organised and client-focused;
- Comfortable working in a small, close-knit team.
Experience of trusts and/or tax would be beneficial.
