About the role
The Mental Health and Wellbeing Worker will provide formalised emotional and practical support to Service Users to help them regain control over their lives and progress through their own unique recovery journey. The postholder will work alongside individuals experiencing mental health challenges, supporting them to identify goals, build confidence, and take positive steps towards improved wellbeing, independence, and social inclusion.
The role focuses on person-centred, recovery-focused support, helping individuals develop coping strategies, access community opportunities, and engage in meaningful activities such as recovery programmes, volunteering, education, training, or involvement in their local community.
The postholder will work in tandem with advisers from Citizens Advice Cornwall based in a number of foodbanks to support deliver one-to-one support across multiple locations, including community venues, partner organisations, and service users’ homes. The role may involve lone working and requires the ability to work independently while maintaining professional boundaries and safeguarding responsibilities.
The postholder will work in partnership with other professionals, agencies, and services to ensure coordinated support, while maintaining accurate records and working in line with organisational policies, safeguarding procedures, and relevant legislation
The role involves frequent exposure to distressing or emotional situations and requires resilience, professionalism, and the ability to work within a supportive supervision structure.
Project Overview
This role forms part of a partnership project between Cornwall Mind and Citizen’s Advice Cornwall, providing mental health casework support to individuals at risk of homelessness.
The partnership aims to:
- Improve access to mental health support for people experiencing Serious Mental Illness (SMI)
- Provide practical and emotional support to individuals referred through the programme
- Reduce the risk of homelessness by addressing underlying mental health challenges
- Provide early intervention and crisis prevention support
Support may include:
- Mental health and wellbeing action plan design
- One-to-one casework support
- Signposting and referrals to appropriate services
- Advocacy with housing, benefits, or support agencies
- Crisis prevention and early intervention
Key Responsibilities
- Provide person-centred recovery coaching to individuals experiencing mental health difficulties
- Develop supportive and respectful relationships with Service Users
- Work collaboratively with Service Users to co-design recovery goals and support plans
- Support individuals to take ownership of their recovery and wellbeing
- Encourage participation in recovery activities, volunteering, education, training, and community involvement
- Deliver support in accordance with professional standards, safeguarding policies, and organisational procedures
- Maintain accurate case records and outcome data using Lamplight or other agreed systems
- Attend and participate in multi-disciplinary meetings where appropriate
- Work under regular supervision and guidance from managers and professional colleagues
- Maintain clear professional boundaries at all times
- Ensure all information is kept confidential in line with organisational policies and data protection legislation
- Support Service Users with advice and guidance relating to education, training, employment, housing, and benefits where appropriate
- Follow all health and safety policies and lone working procedures
- Participate in training, supervision, and professional development opportunities
- Undertake other duties appropriate to the post
