Join the Team Building the Future of Scottish Financial Planning
For more than 20 years, Associated Legal & Financial Ltd (ALAF) has been providing trusted financial advice to individuals, families and businesses throughout Inverness and the Highlands.
Today, we are entering an exciting new chapter.
We’re investing in our people, technology and client experience as we expand our business across Scotland. Over the next two years we will be growing our adviser, mortgage, paraplanning and support teams to build one of Scotland’s leading independent financial planning businesses.
As part of our continued growth, we are looking to appoint a Mortgage & Protection Adviser to join our expanding advice team.
The Role
This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing and ambitious financial planning business with an established reputation and a substantial existing client base.
Working alongside our Financial Advisers, Paraplanners and Client Support Team, you will provide professional mortgage and protection advice to both new and existing clients.
Unlike many mortgage adviser roles, you will not be expected to generate all of your own business. You will benefit from referrals generated through our existing client relationships, professional connections and ongoing business growth, allowing you to focus on delivering outstanding advice and building long-term client relationships.
Whether assisting first-time buyers, home movers, landlords or clients looking to protect their families and financial future, you will play an important role in helping clients make informed financial decisions with confidence.
Key Responsibilities
· Provide professional mortgage advice tailored to each client’s individual circumstances.
· Advise clients on appropriate protection solutions, including life insurance, critical illness cover and income protection.
· Conduct client meetings both in person and remotely.
· Assess affordability and identify suitable mortgage solutions from across the market.
· Prepare mortgage and protection recommendations in accordance with FCA regulations.
· Build and maintain long-term relationships with clients.
· Work closely with Financial Advisers to identify opportunities for holistic financial planning.
· Liaise with lenders, insurers, solicitors, surveyors and other professional contacts throughout the application process.
· Maintain accurate client records using the firm’s back-office systems.
· Ensure all advice complies with FCA regulations and internal compliance procedures.
· Keep up to date with lender criteria, product developments and regulatory changes.
· Represent ALAF professionally at all times.
About You
We’re looking for someone who enjoys helping people achieve their property ambitions while ensuring they and their families are financially protected.
You will be professional, approachable and committed to delivering excellent client service. You will enjoy building trusted relationships and have the ability to explain complex mortgage and protection products in a clear and straightforward manner.
You will also enjoy working collaboratively with colleagues and contributing to the continued growth of the business.
Essential Experience
· Previous experience as a Mortgage Adviser or Mortgage & Protection Adviser within an FCA-regulated practice.
· Full CeMAP qualification (or equivalent recognised mortgage qualification).
· Competent Adviser Status (CAS) for mortgage advice.
· Strong knowledge of residential mortgage products and the mortgage application process.
· Experience advising on protection products.
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
· Strong organisational and time management skills.
· Ability to build trusted long-term client relationships.
· Full UK driving licence.
Desirable Experience
· Experience advising on buy-to-let mortgages.
· Experience advising on later life or equity release products.
· Knowledge of specialist lending and adverse credit cases.
· Experience using Intelligent Office (IO) or similar back-office systems.
· Existing relationships with lenders and professional introducers.
· Certificate in Regulated Equity Release (CeRER) or equivalent.
· Working knowledge of wider financial planning and wealth management.
What We Offer
· Permanent employed position.
· Workplace pension.
· Paid annual leave.
· Professional development and ongoing technical training.
· Support towards professional qualifications.
· Performance-related bonus.
· Established client portfolio with ongoing referral opportunities.
· Friendly office environment based in Inverness.
· Supportive and collaborative working environment.
· Genuine long-term career progression as ALAF expands across Scotland.
