WW Bowen Ltd is looking for a hardworking and reliable Tarmac Operative to join our expanding surfacing team. We deliver high-quality reinstatement, highways, utilities and civil engineering projects across South Wales, and we're looking for someone who takes pride in producing exceptional workmanship.

The Role
As a Tarmac Operative, you'll play a key role in delivering a wide range of surfacing and reinstatement works for utility, highway and civil engineering projects across South Wales.
Working as part of a skilled team, you'll help ensure all surfacing works are completed safely, efficiently and to the highest quality standards.
Typical duties include:
- Laying and finishing asphalt and tarmac surfaces.
- Carrying out permanent and temporary reinstatement works.
- Preparing excavation areas for surfacing.
- Operating rollers, compactors and other surfacing equipment.
- Carrying out footway, carriageway and commercial surfacing works.
- Supporting utility reinstatement and highways projects.
- Ensuring work areas are left clean, safe and compliant.
Key Responsibilities
- Lay and finish asphalt to a high standard.
- Prepare sub-bases and surfaces ready for surfacing.
- Carry out reinstatement works in accordance with specification and industry standards.
- Operate plant and equipment where trained and authorised.
- Work safely in accordance with company procedures, NRSWA requirements and health and safety legislation.
- Assist with traffic management and site set-up where required.
- Work effectively as part of a team to deliver projects on time.
- Maintain high standards of workmanship and professionalism on every project.
What We're Looking For
The ideal candidate will have experience in:
- Asphalt and tarmac surfacing.
- Utility reinstatement.
- Highways maintenance.
- Groundworks or civil engineering.
- Machine and roller operation (advantageous).
You will also be:
- Reliable, punctual and hardworking.
- Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- A team player with a positive attitude.
- Committed to delivering high-quality work.
- Flexible and willing to work across a variety of projects.
Desirable Qualifications
The following are advantageous but not essential:
- CSCS Card
- NRSWA Street Works Qualification
- CPCS or NPORS Plant Tickets
- Full UK Driving Licence
- Class 2 (preferred)
- First Aid at Work
- Cat & Genny
- Manual Handling
