About the Role
We’re looking for a Senior Software Engineer with a curious mindset, a strong analytical approach who enjoys solving complex problems, building reliable systems, taking ownership of high-quality software delivery and maintaining existing software.
You’ll play a key role in designing, developing, and delivering agile software that underpins safety-critical and industrial condition monitoring products. You’ll work in a collaborative Agile environment, contributing not just code, but ideas helping shape solutions, improve engineering practices, and influence how our products evolve.
Your key responsibilities will include:
Design, Architecture & Technical Leadership
- Design, develop, and maintain complex software systems using established and emerging technologies within an Agile delivery environment.
- Review and refine user stories, acceptance criteria, and technical designs to ensure feasibility, clarity, and alignment with architectural direction.
- Lead system and feature design discussions, contributing to architectural decisions and guiding technical approaches within the Agile team.
- Implement high‑quality technical solutions and contribute to their evaluation, optimisation, and continuous improvement.
- Set up, configure, and maintain development tools, and cloud or on‑premises environments supporting Agile delivery.
Engineering Strategy & Continuous Improvement
- Apply advanced engineering principles and specialist knowledge to enable effective iterative software delivery.
- Evaluate, select, and champion appropriate technologies, frameworks, and design patterns to meet product and organisational needs.
- Use evidence‑based decision-making to solve complex technical challenges and drive continuous improvement.
- Design, develop, and maintain systems, tools, and processes that improve the software development lifecycle, code quality, and observability
- Actively champion improvements in engineering quality, automation, performance, reliability, and sustainability.
Problem Solving, Risk Management & Quality
- Identify complex technical issues, analyse root causes, and implement robust, timely solutions that support sprint and release commitments.
- Assess technical risks associated with design and implementation decisions, recommending appropriate mitigation strategies.
- Ensure software meets security, performance, safety, and quality standards expected in industrial and safety-critical environments.
- Produce clear technical documentation, design justifications, and communicate risks, trade-offs, and recommendations to stakeholders.
Leadership, Collaboration & Agile Delivery
- Provide technical leadership within Agile ceremonies, including sprint planning, refinement, retrospectives, and daily stand‑ups.
- Mentor and guide other engineers through pair programming, code reviews, technical coaching, and knowledge‑sharing.
- Plan work activities, resources, and priorities to support effective sprint delivery and wider programme goals.
- Organise, direct, and coordinate work across multiple contributors or teams, supporting changing technical and project needs.
- Collaborate closely with Product Owners, Testers, System Engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure aligned and predictable delivery.
- Maintain strong customer focus, ensuring solutions meet user needs, business objectives, and quality expectations.
Communication & Professional Influence
- Communicate clearly and confidently with stakeholders at all levels, presenting technical proposals, architectural options, and design conclusions.
- Facilitate team discussions, technical workshops, and cross‑functional collaboration.
- Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, promoting respectful, inclusive, and effective team interactions.
- Influence technical direction across the engineering organisation and promote alignment with best practice and strategic goals.
Professional Development & Ethical Practice
- Maintain and record Continuing Professional Development (CPD) to enhance specialist expertise and leadership capability.
- Stay current with emerging technologies, tooling, and Agile engineering practices.
- Understand and improve safe systems of work, ensuring that design and implementation decisions consider safety implications.
- Apply principles of sustainable development in engineering activities.
- Recognise and act on ethical considerations in software engineering, ensuring responsible and transparent decision-making.
About you
You have a solid development experience using C#, C++/MFC and .NET. Having experience using Delphi Pascal is a bonus.
You'll stand out if you've worked with C# applications that interface with legacy and native systems using technologies such as C, C++ and COM, and have a strong appreciation of software architecture and design principles.
We're particularly interested in candidates who enjoy solving real-world engineering challenges and have experience or an interest in digital signal processing, data acquisition, and digital and/or analogue electronics.
You’re passionate about software engineering and motivated by building high-quality, dependable systems that make a real-world difference. You approach challenges with a strong analytical mindset, breaking down complex problems and making sound technical decisions.
You take ownership of your work, care about code quality and maintainability, and understand the value of well-designed, well-tested software. You communicate clearly, collaborate effectively across teams, and are comfortable contributing ideas and constructive challenge.
You’re adaptable and pragmatic, able to balance delivery with continuous improvement. Experience with industrial or embedded systems, condition monitoring, Agile delivery, or tools such as
Atlassian Cloud would be beneficial, but not essential. What matters most is your engineering mindset, your curiosity, and your desire to contribute and grow.
Whether you’re an established Senior Software Engineer or ready to step up into a role with more responsibility and influence, this position offers meaningful technical challenges and genuine opportunities to develop.
