About Genpower:
We are the exclusive UK and Ireland distributor for Hyundai Power Products and a global distributor for JCB Tools and power products. Alongside these leading brands, our portfolio includes P1 Power Equipment, Evopower, Gardentek and BE Pressure.
Established as a family-run business in 2006, we have grown into a leading distributor within the power equipment sector. We operate from our headquarters in Pembroke Dock and our 100,000 sq ft distribution centre in Newport, supporting customers across the UK and internationally.
Having surpassed £50m in turnover, we are continuing our ambitious growth journey towards £100m. We supply an extensive approved dealer network while also reaching consumers directly through our own Shopify stores, Amazon, eBay and other leading marketplaces.
The role.
This is a technical e-commerce role.
We migrated four websites to Shopify in two months with no agency. We built our own product information system, our own attribution and paid-ads reporting platform, our own competitor price monitoring, and custom Shopify apps to replace paid ones. All of it sits on a data warehouse we run ourselves.
We now need someone who can own that build and take it further. You will be responsible for the Shopify storefronts and the tooling behind them: themes, custom apps, integrations, data feeds and the roadmap of what we build next. You will work directly with the Head of Digital and, over time, take primary ownership of the technical e-commerce stack.
If you want to run promotions and update banners, this is the wrong role. If you want to build the systems that make those things automatic, read on.
What you will be doing:
- Own development across our four Shopify storefronts: theme development in Liquid, HTML, CSS and JavaScript
- Build and maintain custom Shopify apps and integrations, replacing paid apps where we can do it better and cheaper
- Extend our in-house product information system so product content, spec tables, pricing and imagery flow automatically to every storefront and marketplace
- Work with our data warehouse: build and maintain data connectors, write queries, and feed reporting used across the business
- Use AI tooling as a core part of how you build. We expect you to ship more, faster, because of it
- Improve site performance, Core Web Vitals, structured data and technical SEO
- Run conversion optimisation: analyse GA4 and Microsoft Clarity data, form a view, test it, act on it
- Integrate the storefronts with NetSuite, Zendesk, Attentive and our internal tools
- Support marketplace listing automation and pricing feeds
What we are looking for.
Essential:
- Hands-on Shopify development experience: Liquid, theme architecture, the Admin and Storefront APIs, and custom app development
- Solid JavaScript, HTML and CSS
- Experience working with APIs, webhooks and data integrations between systems
- Practical use of AI coding tools in your daily work. We will ask what you have built with them
- Ability to work with data: SQL at a working level, and willingness to learn BigQuery if you have not used it
- Self-directed. You can take a loose brief, ask the right questions and deliver something that works
- Clear communication with people who are not technical
Desirable:
- Shopify Plus, headless or Hydrogen experience
- Python, Node.js or similar
- Google Cloud Platform, BigQuery or comparable data warehouse experience
- ERP integration experience, ideally NetSuite
- Marketplace feed management (Amazon, eBay, Google Merchant Center)
- Technical SEO and schema markup
We are more interested in what you have built than in your qualifications. Send us something we can look at.
What is in it for you.
- Competitive salary with performance-related bonus
- Private healthcare
- Perkbox membership and staff discount across all our brands
- Employer contribution pension scheme
- Increasing holiday allowance with length of service
- Hybrid working (remote working for the right candidate)
- Real ownership. This is a small team with a large build ahead of it, and you will decide a lot of how it gets done
How to apply:
Send your CV, a cover letter, and links to work you have built: Shopify stores, apps, repositories, or anything else that shows what you can do.
We are committed to providing an inclusive recruitment process. If you require any adjustments during the application or interview process, please let us know and we will work with you to support your needs.
Interview process:
We will set a short technical task based on a real problem from our own setup, followed by a conversation about how you approached it. We are looking at your reasoning and your use of tooling as much as the finished code.
