About RJH Finishing Systems Ltd
With over 80 years of engineering heritage, RJH Finishing Systems Ltd is a British manufacturer of grinding, polishing, and finishing machines for global industrial and education sectors.
We are expanding our Heckmondwike manufacturing operations and modernizing our product lines with digital R&D initiatives. We are seeking a proactive Electrical Controls Engineer / Electrical Fitter to join our workshop team, building high-specification machinery while supporting the rollout of smart, cloud-connected equipment.
The Role
You will be responsible for the end-to-end assembly, wiring, testing, and commissioning of electrical control panels and factory machinery. Alongside day-to-day machine building, you will play a hands-on technical role supporting Project Genesis—integrating smart inverters, gateways, and IoT monitoring onto our machine platforms.
Key Responsibilities
- Build, wire, and integrate industrial control panels, switchgear, relays, safety guard switches, and e-stop circuits from schematics.
- Wire motors, variable speed drives (VFDs/inverters), and soft-start systems to engineering layout drawings.
- Support the configuration, parameter setup, and testing of inverters, basic PLCs, and serial communication hardware (MODBUS RTU / RS-485).
- Conduct electrical testing, pre-delivery inspection, point-to-point continuity checks, and workshop fault-finding.
- Read, interpret, and update electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
- Work collaboratively with the production and operations team to ensure build deadlines and quality standards are met.
What We Are Looking For
- Core Experience: Proven hands-on background in industrial electrical panel wiring, control panel assembly, or machine fitting.
- Schematic Reading: Confident reading and interpreting electrical schematics, component layouts, and wiring schedules.
- Controls Exposure: Practical experience with (or a strong technical appetite to learn) Inverter/VFD setup, basic PLC hardware, and industrial protocols (MODBUS RTU).
- Qualifications: Relevant electrical/engineering qualification (e.g., NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, HNC/HND, or time-served apprenticeship).
- Work Ethic: Strong problem-solving ability, high attention to detail, and a proactive workshop attitude.
- Right to Work: Must hold full, unrestricted Right to Work in the UK.
What We Offer
- Early Friday Finish: Standard 2:00 PM finish every Friday.
- Project Milestone Bonuses: Performance rewards linked to R&D and digital rollouts.
- Overtime Opportunities: Available to boost take-home earnings.
- Flexitime: Occasional flexibility around standard working hours to support work-life balance.
- Growth & Progression: Opportunities to develop your controls, PLC, and IoT engineering skills as our product line scales.
