Newbury Commercial Glazing is a growing, family‑run business with more than 25 years’ experience delivering high‑quality aluminium glazing solutions across the public and private sectors. Our work spans reactive maintenance, planned refurbishments, and new-build projects, with several long-standing reactive maintenance frameworks serviced by dedicated two-person teams.
We are seeking an experienced Field Service Engineer to support our expanding workload. This is a predominantly site‑based role, delivering small works, responsive repairs, and emergency call‑outs across a variety of commercial properties, including schools and other sensitive environments. Professionalism, safety awareness, and high-quality workmanship are essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Attend emergency callouts and reactive maintenance jobs, assessing issues and carrying out immediate make‑safe or boarding‑up works.
- Replace damaged glass and double‑glazed units, ensuring installations meet required safety and quality standards.
- Undertake general repairs to aluminium and uPVC windows and doors.
- Replace or adjust overhead door closers, hinges, locks, handles, and associated hardware.
- Repair Teleflex winding gear and other window/door operating mechanisms.
- Complete accurate onsite assessments, measurements, and reports for follow‑on works.
- Maintain a safe working environment and ensure compliance with all RAMS, KPIs, and contractual obligations.
- Represent the company professionally when working in schools and other sensitive environments.
- Work efficiently within a two-person team, contributing to high service standards and a positive working culture.
Skills & Experience
- Proven experience in commercial glazing, maintenance, or a related fenestration trade (essential).
- Strong technical ability with aluminium and uPVC systems, reactive repairs, and on-site problem solving.
- Ability to work independently and make decisions confidently when attending live callouts.
- Excellent communication skills and professional conduct with clients, staff, and building users.
- Understanding of safeguarding considerations when working in schools and public buildings.
Qualifications
- CSCS card or IOSH Working Safely certification (required – training may be provided for the right candidate).
- Asbestos Awareness certification (required – training can be provided).
- SSSTS or SMSTS certification (advantageous).
- Full UK driving licence (essential).
- Enhanced DBS check required (carried out as part of employment process).
