To provide specialised nursing support to students/clients with severe and complex learning disabilities, physical disabilities, and a wide range of medical conditions. The postholder will contribute to the delivery of high-quality healthcare support within the College, enabling students to access learning opportunities safely and effectively.
The Registered Nurse will provide direct clinical care, support healthcare education activities, contribute to the College's First Aid Response Team, and deliver desensitisation programmes for students who experience difficulties with routine medical procedures.
A key aspect of the role is to support the development of future nursing professionals by acting as a placement mentor for undergraduate nursing students, including those undertaking Learning Disability Nursing placements through the College's partnership with the University of Hertfordshire. The postholder will also contribute to the delivery of health-related training and the ongoing development of healthcare provision within the College.
Key Responsibilities
Student Care and Clinical Support
- Provide direct specialised nursing care to students as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Support students with severe and complex learning disabilities and physical disabilities.
- Support students with a wide range of medical conditions.
- Apply specialist knowledge and experience in:
- Epilepsy management.
- Diabetes management.
- PEG tube management.
- Provide tracheostomy care where trained or undertake training in this area as required.
- Contribute to the delivery of person-centred healthcare support that enables students to participate fully in College life.
First Aid and Emergency Response
- Form part of the College's First Aid Response Team.
- Respond appropriately to student healthcare needs and medical incidents within the College setting.
- Support the provision of a safe environment for students through effective clinical practice and emergency response.
Student Health Education
- Educate students on different aspects of healthcare and personal wellbeing.
- Deliver desensitisation activities for students who find routine medical procedures difficult to tolerate.
- Support students to engage positively with healthcare interventions and procedures.
Training and Mentoring
- Act as a placement mentor for undergraduate nursing students.
- Support the College's partnership with the University of Hertfordshire in the training and development of undergraduate Learning Disability Nurses.
- Contribute to the supervision, support, and learning experience of nursing students on placement.
- Take an active role in delivering health-related training to staff.
- Contribute to the ongoing development of healthcare provision within the College.

Person Specification
Education and Quealifications
- Registered Nurse with current NMC registration.
- SPLD qualification. (Desirable)
- RSN qualification. (Desirable)
Experience
- Experience supporting children and young people with severe and complex learning disabilities and physical disabilities.
- Knowledge and experience of epilepsy, diabetes, and PEG tube management.
- Experience of tracheostomy care or willingness to undertake training.
- Experience mentoring nursing students.

Working Hours
9:00 am – 16:45 pm, Monday to Friday
Pay: £29,553.00-£36,265.00 per year
