The Role
As a growing and fast-paced business with a strong industry reputation, we’re seeking a proactive and highly organised Transport Manager to take ownership of our HGV and grey fleet across the South Eastern region. This role sits in our brand new Tilbury office, supporting an exciting project in the area.
Reporting to the Head of Transport, this is a hands-on, high-impact position where you’ll manage fleet compliance and transport operations, ensuring everything operates safely, efficiently, and to the high standards we’re known for.
Key Responsibilities
You’ll play a key role in keeping our operations moving by:
- Managing and maintaining our HGV and grey fleet on the South Eastern O-Licence, ensuring all vehicles are compliant and roadworthy
- Once it has been set up, overseeing the day-to-day running of the workshop, including organisation, safety, and efficiency
- Ensuring vehicle maintenance is up to date, including MOTs, PMIs, tachographs, and defect repairs
- Coordinating calibration and testing of equipment, tools, and vehicles
- Maintaining accurate and up-to-date records across systems such as Fleetcheck and Licencecheck
- Ensuring driver and vehicle documentation is completed, compliant and filed correctly
- Monitoring driver compliance with traffic regulations and driver hours rules
- Supporting driver licence checks, training records, and ongoing development (including FORS training)
- Working closely with Contract Managers to manage both employed and self-employed drivers
- Ensuring RAMS and working processes are in place, up to date, and communicated effectively
- Ensure full compliance with all relevant legislation and company policies, particularly Health & Safety, Quality, and Environmental standards
- Support the Head of Transport in implementing legislative changes and ensuring adherence
- Assist in maintaining Operator’s Licence requirements, ISO certifications, FORS, and other accreditations
- Contribute to continual improvement across our Integrated Management Systems
About You
- Strong leadership and people management skills
- Highly organised with excellent attention to detail
- Confident communicator with the ability to influence and support teams
- Proven experience in fleet, transport, or workshop management
- Good understanding of transport legislation and compliance requirements
- Ability to work to tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- A proactive problem solver with a hands-on approach
Qualifications & Requirements
- Transport Manager CPC (essential)
- FORS Practitioner (desirable)
- Full UK Driving Licence (Category C desirable but not essential)
- Relevant industry experience
