Job Summary
We are seeking a reliable and detail-focused Order Picker to join our warehouse team within our food distribution operation. The successful candidate will be responsible for accurately selecting and preparing food products for dispatch, ensuring orders meet strict quality, safety, and hygiene standards.
This is a physically active role within a fast-paced food environment, requiring heavy lifting and full compliance with health & safety and food safety regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Accurately pick food products using our Electronic Picking System
- Ensure correct product selection, batch control, and stock rotation (FIFO principles)
- Maintain product integrity, checking packaging condition and expiry dates
- Follow strict food hygiene and safety procedures at all times
- Assist with packing and preparing orders to meet dispatch deadlines
- Safely handle chilled, ambient, or frozen goods (where applicable)
- Support stock control through regular stock takes and cycle counts
- Maintain a clean, organised, and hygienic warehouse environment
Skills & Experience
- Previous warehouse experience within a food production or food distribution environment is highly desirable
- Understanding of food hygiene standards and HACCP principles is advantageous
- Experience using electronic picking systems or handheld scanning devices
- Forklift licence or mechanical handling experience preferred (training provided if required)
- Ability to carry out heavy lifting safely over extended periods
- Strong attention to detail, particularly regarding expiry dates and product condition
- Good organisational skills and ability to work efficiently under time pressure
