ifp-labs UK South Yorkshire Ltd is an established and growing food and environmental testing laboratory based in Doncaster, South Yorkshire.
We are currently recruiting for a Senior Microbiologist. The Senior Microbiologist is responsible for leading microbiological testing activities within a food testing laboratory, ensuring compliance with applicable regulatory, accreditation, and quality requirements. The role provides technical leadership, supervises laboratory personnel, validates methods, investigates non-conformances, and ensures the delivery of accurate, reliable, and timely test results. The Senior Microbiologist plays a key role in maintaining laboratory accreditation, driving continuous improvement, and supporting business growth through technical expertise.
The available shift pattern is Monday to Friday, 10.30am to 6pm.
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology, Food Microbiology, Biological Sciences, or a related discipline
- Minimum of 5–7 years’ experience in a food microbiology laboratory
- Demonstrated experience working within an ISO/IEC 17025 accredited laboratory
- Strong knowledge of food microbiological testing methods and laboratory quality systems
Pay rates are dependent on experience and the role includes 21 days holiday plus bank holidays.
Duties
- Perform, review, and approve microbiological analyses of food, water, environmental, and related samples.
- Ensure testing is conducted in accordance with ISO/IEC 17025, laboratory procedures, and client specifications.
- Interpret microbiological results and provide technical guidance on findings.
- Lead method verification, validation, and measurement uncertainty studies.
- Develop, review, and update standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Monitor quality control data and implement corrective actions where required.
- Investigate atypical results, out-of-specification findings, and laboratory non-conformances.
- Ensure appropriate maintenance, calibration, and performance verification of microbiological equipment.
