Overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Fabric Operative to join a professional facilities management team supporting a prestigious site in Newmarket. This role is offered on a temp to perm basis, providing an excellent opportunity for a skilled maintenance professional to secure a permanent position within a well established organisation.
The successful candidate will be responsible for carrying out a range of planned and reactive building fabric maintenance tasks, ensuring the site is maintained to a high standard of safety, presentation, and functionality.
Duties
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance tasks.
- Carpentry and joinery
- Painting and decorating
- Minor plastering
- Tiling repairs
- Basic plumbing works
- Repair and maintain doors, locks, hinges, flooring, ceilings, walls, and internal fittings.
- Complete snagging and refurbishment work as required.
- Conduct routine site inspections and identify maintenance issues.
- Ensure all work is completed safely and in line with company procedures.
- Record completed works accurately using maintenance systems or worksheets.
- Liaise professionally with site personnel and contractors.
- Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a clean and safe condition.
- Support other maintenance teams when required.

Essential Skills & Experience
- Previous experience working as a Fabric Operative, Handyperson, Maintenance Technician, or Building Maintenance Operative.
- Strong practical skills across multiple trades, particularly:
- Carpentry
- Painting & Decorating
- General Building Maintenance
- Plumbing
- Ability to diagnose and rectify building fabric defects.
- Good knowledge of health and safety practices.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively.
- Good communication and customer service skills.
Desirable Qualifications
- NVQ, City & Guilds, or equivalent qualification in Carpentry, Building Maintenance, or a related trade.
- Experience working within commercial, industrial, residential, or high end facilities environments.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
