The Lung Unit delivers treatment to patients with a diagnosis of a malignant thoracic tumour on the Sutton and Chelsea site and chemotherapy at Kingston. The lung unit saw 1134 new patients for treatment last year.
The Lung Unit has expanded multidisciplinary working to have a thoracic surgeon on site in clinic once a week in Sutton. The respiratory team (2 chest physicians at Sutton) is present at this clinic and in addition delivers opinions on thoracic issues for any cancer patients with the assessment and insertion of indwelling pleural catheters as required. The respiratory team at Chelsea also has one chest physician on site. This whole axis has great potential for expansion in the coming years.
To participate in and support the multidisciplinary care team which includes Medical Oncologists, Clinical Oncologists, Surgeons, the relevant junior team, Specialist Nursing Staff, Therapists, Dietician, Social worker, Palliative Care and Counseling for patients and families.
The post holder will be expected to participate fully in Quality Surveillance and required Audits.
The post holder will contribute to the development of the departmental objectives and business plan and would manage resources within the approved plan. The consultant would be part of the Cancer Services Division and would be accountable to the Divisional Medical Director.
The post holder will be expected to play an active part in the management and administration of the clinical services.
The post holder will be expected to work closely with consultant colleagues in other oncology services in South West London and RM Partners and participate in related meetings
To work within the department to seek ways of improving the efficiency of the service without sacrificing quality.
To contribute to the risk management of the department and contribute the development and maintenance of best clinical practice through Clinical Governance.
