Senior Support Worker – Children’s Home
Location: Homes in Dewsbury & Batley
Salary: £16.10 per hour
Contract: Full-time / Permanent
About the Role
We are looking for a Senior Support Worker to join our dedicated team within a residential children’s home. This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who is passionate about making a genuine difference in the lives of children and young people.
As a Senior Support Worker, you will play an important role in creating a safe, nurturing and positive home environment. You will support the young people in our care to build confidence, develop independence and achieve their personal goals.
You will also act as a positive role model for the team, providing guidance to Support Workers and helping to ensure that the home operates to a high standard.
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Supporting children and young people with their day-to-day needs, routines and personal development.
- Building positive, trusting and professional relationships with young people.
- Providing consistent boundaries, encouragement and emotional support.
- Supporting young people with education, appointments, activities and community involvement.
- Helping young people develop practical life skills and greater independence.
- Taking responsibility for shifts and supporting the smooth running of the home.
- Delegating tasks and providing guidance and support to other team members.
- Completing accurate daily records, care notes and incident reports.
- Following individual care plans, risk assessments and safeguarding procedures.
- Responding calmly and professionally to challenging situations.
- Working closely with colleagues, managers, social workers, families and other professionals.
- Supporting new members of staff and helping maintain a positive team culture.
- Ensuring the home remains welcoming, safe, clean and child-focused.
- Taking part in staff meetings, training and supervision.
We are looking for someone who is:
- Experience within Residential Childcare
- Hold or enrolled on Level 3 diploma in Residential Childcare (or equivalent)
- Caring, patient and emotionally resilient.
- Confident working with children and young people who may have experienced trauma, instability or challenging circumstances.
- A strong communicator who can build relationships while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries.
- Able to remain calm and make sound decisions during difficult situations.
- Confident taking the lead on shifts and supporting other staff.
- Reliable, responsible and able to work as part of a team.
- Organised and confident completing written records and reports.
- Committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
- Willing to work flexibly, including evenings, weekends, bank holidays and sleep-ins where required.
