Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Kitchen Assistant to join our team. The ideal candidate will play a vital role in supporting the daily operations of our nursery, ensuring a safe and nurturing environment for children. This position involves maintaining food safety standards, making it essential for candidates to possess experience in food handling.
The hours for this position will be 11am-2pm. For 3 days and 10am-4pm on two days. Monday-Friday. This is a maternity cover position for 9 months.
Duties
- Setting up our Hall for lunch time, this will include moving tables and chairs into place, putting out placemats, cups and cutlery.
- Help maintain a clean and organised kitchen environment, including washing dishes and cleaning surfaces.
- Support the nursery staff in supervising children during meal times, ensuring they are eating safely and healthily.
- Engage with children during meal times to promote social skills and encourage healthy eating habits.
- Passing out meals to children making sure each child gets the correct meal and allergies are closely monitored. You will also need to take allergy awareness training.
- Collaborate with other staff members to create a positive and supportive atmosphere within the nursery.
- Clearing up the hall area after lunch, wiping and putting away tables and chairs, sweeping and moping up any mess.
Requirements
- Previous experience in a culinary or food preparation role is preferred, particularly within a nursery or childcare setting.
- Knowledge of food safety regulations and best practices in meal preparation.
- Strong communication skills to effectively interact with children, and team members.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team while also being able to take initiative when required.
- A genuine passion for working with children and contributing positively to their development.
- Flexibility to adapt to changing needs within the nursery environment.
