G E Baker UK Ltd is a family-run agricultural manufacturing business established for over 60 years, supplying innovative equipment and livestock buildings throughout the UK. We design, manufacture and install solutions that help modern farming businesses operate more efficiently.
We have an opportunity for a CAD Designer / Design Engineer to join our team, taking responsibility for the design of our agricultural equipment and livestock buildings
This is a varied role that combines mechanical design with agricultural building design. One day you may be modelling a new piece of livestock equipment in SolidWorks, the next producing construction drawings for a new Pig or Calf building using AutoCAD, Draftsight or Revit.
No two projects are the same, making this an ideal opportunity for someone who enjoys variety and seeing their designs become real products and buildings.
The Role
You will be responsible for:
- Producing 3D models and manufacturing drawings for agricultural equipment using SolidWorks.
- Preparing 2D layouts and technical drawings in AutoCAD / Draftsight.
- Creating building models and construction drawings using Revit.
- Working closely with our engineering, manufacturing and construction teams to develop practical, buildable solutions.
- Visiting manufacturing and construction projects when required to understand how designs are produced and installed.
- Supporting product development and continuous improvement projects.
- Maintaining drawing standards and technical documentation.
About You
We recognise that very few candidates will have experience in both mechanical engineering and agricultural construction, so we are looking for someone with the right attitude and ability to learn.
Ideally you will have:
- Experience using one or more CAD packages such as SolidWorks, AutoCad, Draftsight or Revit.
- A background in mechanical engineering, construction, manufacturing or a related industry.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- The ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.
- Good communication skills and the confidence to work with colleagues across the business.
- A practical approach and an interest in how things are designed, manufactured and built.
Experience of agricultural equipment or livestock buildings would be an advantage but is not essential.
What We Offer
- A varied and interesting role with genuine responsibility.
- The opportunity to work across both mechanical engineering and construction projects.
- Ongoing training in specialist agricultural products and building systems.
- Long-term career opportunities within a well-established family business.
- Competitive salary based on experience.
- Supportive, friendly working environment.
If you're looking for a role where your work has a visible impact and you enjoy solving practical engineering challenges, we'd love to hear from you.
