DAY SHIFT 8.30AM / 5PM
Job Purpose
To accurately pick, prepare, and load steel plate orders for dispatch, ensuring correct material, quantities, and quality, while maintaining high safety and operational standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Pick steel plates and sheets to customer orders using picking lists
- Identify correct material grades, sizes, and thicknesses (e.g. 10–25mm plate)
- Operate overhead cranes to move heavy steel plates safely
- Band, stack, and prepare orders for dispatch
- Check all items before loading to ensure 100% accuracy
- Assist with loading vehicles, ensuring loads are safe and secure
- Work closely with drivers to confirm correct materials are loaded
- Carry out visual quality checks (damage, rust, defects where applicable)
- Label and maintain traceability of all picked materials
- Keep warehouse areas clean, organised, and safe
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Follow all health & safety procedures at all times
- Use lifting equipment correctly (cranes, slings, chains)
- Carry out pre-use checks on lifting gear
- Report any unsafe conditions, near misses, or damaged equipment
- Adhere to company standards including ISO 9001 & ISO 14001
- Wear required PPE at all times
Skills & Experience
Essential:
- Experience in a warehouse or steel stockholding environment
- Ability to read and understand picking lists and measurements
- Good attention to detail (critical for load accuracy)
- Understanding of safe manual handling and lifting operations
Desirable:
- Overhead crane licence/experience
- FLT licence
- Experience handling heavy steel plate

Working Hours
- Day shift - shift-based depending on business needs
