We are looking for a reliable and practical casual maintenance operative to assist with the day-to-day upkeep, repairs and preparation of student studios and communal areas at Briggate Studios.
At times, you will also be required to assist with cleaning student rooms, including bedrooms, bathrooms and kitchen areas, particularly during busy check-in, check-out and room-turnaround periods.
Hours will be offered according to the needs of the building. There are no guaranteed minimum hours, and casual workers may accept or decline shifts when offered.
Key Responsibilities
Maintenance Duties (Primary Responsibility)
- Carrying out minor repairs within student studios and communal areas
- Completing basic maintenance tasks, including minor joinery, decorating, patch repairs and silicone sealing
- Repairing or assembling furniture and replacing minor fittings
- Adjusting doors, hinges, handles and other general fixtures
- Carrying out room checks and identifying maintenance issues
- Reporting faults that require a qualified or specialist contractor
- Assisting with the preparation of rooms before new residents arrive
- Maintaining tools, equipment and maintenance storage areas
- Supporting contractors with access to rooms and communal areas where required
- Working in accordance with Health & Safety procedures
Cleaning Duties (When Required)
- Assisting with the cleaning of student bedrooms, bathrooms and kitchen areas
- Supporting room cleans during busy student check-in and check-out periods
- Cleaning communal areas where additional support is required
- Removing waste and preparing rooms to the required standard
- Replenishing cleaning supplies and reporting low stock levels
- Working in accordance with COSHH and cleaning-product instructions
Skills & Experience
- Previous maintenance, handyman or facilities experience
- Basic knowledge of general building repairs
- Ability to carry out cleaning duties to a good standard when required
- Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively
- Good problem-solving and communication skills
- Reliable, practical and able to respond to different site requirements
- Flexible approach to working hours, including occasional weekends
- Right to work in the UK
Pay: £13.00 per hour
