Hours: 35 Hours Per Week
Contract: 6 Week Temporary Contract
Location: Ty Draig, St David's Park, Deeside, Flintshire, CH5 3FF
Rate: PAYE £185.96 per day
Work Pattern: Minimum 1 day per week in office, with additional attendance as required by service needs
We're recruiting a Senior Solicitor – Property Law / Conveyancing / Planning & Highways to support the Council's Legal Services Places Team. This is a senior-level role, ideal for a qualified solicitor, barrister, or Chartered Legal Executive with relevant experience in property law, conveyancing, planning, or highways, together with experience supervising or managing legal professionals.
About the Role:
As a Senior Solicitor – Property Law / Conveyancing / Planning & Highways, you'll manage the Legal Services Places Team, comprising eight legal professionals, overseeing the effective and efficient delivery of legal services across Property Law and Conveyancing, Planning, and Highways.
You'll provide specialist legal advice and support to the Council, undertake commercial property transactions, attend Committee and Board meetings, and provide supervision, mentoring, and day-to-day line management to members of the legal team.
What You'll Be Doing:
- Managing the Legal Services Places Team, comprising eight legal professionals
- Overseeing the effective and efficient delivery of legal services covering Property Law and Conveyancing, Planning, and Highways
- Providing specialist legal advice and support to the Council in one or more of these key areas
- Undertaking commercial property transactions, including freehold and leasehold matters
- Attending Committee and Board meetings to provide legal advice and support effective governance
- Supervising, mentoring, and supporting team members to maintain high standards of professional practice
- Carrying out staff appraisals and day-to-day line management responsibilities
- Managing workloads and ensuring the effective, efficient, and timely delivery of legal services
- Maintaining high standards of service delivery, legal compliance, and professional practice
- Working collaboratively with colleagues and providing clear, practical, and commercially focused legal advice
Requirements:
We're seeking a qualified Solicitor, Barrister, or Chartered Legal Executive with current practising rights. You'll ideally have:
- Relevant experience in property law, conveyancing, planning, or highways
- Experience providing clear and practical legal advice within a local authority or public sector environment
- Experience supervising or managing legal professionals
- Strong experience in commercial property, particularly freehold and leasehold transactions
- Ability to manage and prioritise a legal caseload independently while working effectively as part of a wider legal team
- Strong leadership, supervision, mentoring, and communication skills
- Experience advising Committees and Boards
- Ability to maintain high standards of service delivery and professional practice
- Eligibility to work in the UK
- Willingness to attend the office at least one day per week, with additional attendance as required by service needs
