We are seeking an experienced and passionate Registered Manager to lead our home, ensuring outstanding care, safeguarding, and regulatory compliance while developing a positive culture for both children and staff.
The Role
As the Registered Residential Manager, you will be responsible for the overall leadership, management, and development of the children's home. You will ensure that the service operates in accordance with:
- The Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015
- Children's Home Quality Standards
- Safeguarding legislation and guidance
- Ofsted requirements
- Company policies and procedures
You will provide inspirational leadership to the staff team and ensure children receive exceptional care that promotes positive outcomes and independence.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Management
- Provide effective leadership and management of the children's home.
- Create a positive, child-focused culture.
- Lead, motivate, supervise, and develop the staff team.
- Manage staffing levels, rotas, recruitment, and retention.
- Conduct supervision, appraisals, and performance management.
Safeguarding & Child Protection
- Ensure the welfare and safeguarding of children remains paramount.
- Promote safe care practices and risk management.
- Manage safeguarding concerns and liaise with relevant agencies.
- Ensure staff understand and implement safeguarding procedures.
Quality & Compliance
- Maintain compliance with all relevant legislation and regulations.
- Prepare for and lead Ofsted inspections.
- Ensure all policies and procedures are implemented effectively.
- Monitor service quality through audits, reviews, and action plans.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives.
Care Planning & Outcomes
- Oversee placement planning, care plans, and risk assessments.
- Ensure children's views, wishes, and feelings are central to decision-making.
- Monitor educational attendance, health outcomes, and emotional well-being.
- Promote positive behaviour support strategies.
Stakeholder Management
- Build strong relationships with:
- Children and families
- Social workers
- Local authorities
- Schools and education providers
- Health professionals
- Ofsted and other regulatory bodies
Financial Management
- Manage the home's budget effectively.
- Monitor expenditure and resources.
- Ensure value for money while maintaining quality standards.
Essential Requirements
Qualifications
- Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare (or equivalent).
- Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or equivalent).
Experience
- Minimum 3 years' experience working in a residential children's care setting.
- Minimum 2 years' experience in a supervisory or management role.
- Experience of Ofsted inspections and regulatory compliance.
- Experience managing safeguarding concerns and complex behaviours.
Knowledge
- Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015.
- Quality Standards for Children's Homes.
- Safeguarding and child protection legislation.
- Care planning and risk management.
- Safer recruitment and staff development.
Skills
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities.
- Strong report writing and administrative skills.
- Effective decision-making and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to remain calm under pressure.
Desirable Requirements
- Experience opening or developing children's homes.
- Experience implementing quality management systems.
- Knowledge of trauma-informed care approaches.
- Experience supporting children with emotional and behavioural difficulties.
