The Opportunity
We are looking for an experienced Yard Operative to join our Blackpool team on a full time, permanent basis.
Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 07.00am – 15.30pm
The yard is a key component in the efficient workings of the business. The yard is the first part of the business that any deliveries, visiting customers or suppliers come into contact with. It must therefore be clean, tidy, organised, and be ready for any arriving goods.
A yard operative plays a key role in maintaining a suitable yard through the safe and efficient unloading/ loading of goods, completion of various housekeeping routines, traffic management, recycling.
Key Responsibilities
Traffic Management
· Direct and coordinate the flow of vehicles entering and leaving the yard.
· Ensure parked vehicles are positioned safety and do not block access routes.
Loading & Unloading
· Unloading of deliveries
· Loading of outbound goods
Manufacturing
· Timber frame making
Housekeeping
· Keep all areas of the yard clean and tidy
· Daily sweep of the yard
· Ensuring any spills are cleaned up immediately
· Removal of any trip and slip hazards
· Continuous disposal of waste wood, keeping site waste to a minimum
Health and Safety
· Adhere to Health & Safety Policy and Risk Assessments at all times
· Ensure all routine compliance checks are undertaken
Storage of Goods
· Ensure all pallets of goods are stacked safely in the correctly designated area
· Ensure liners are stored safely and protected from adverse weather when required
Scrap & Recycling
· Collect and separate scrap materials
· Ensure all recyclable material is sorted and placed in the correct bins or skips
· Organise scrap collections as require or notify the appropriate person
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have:
Proven experience operating within a busy outdoor yard, manufacturing, or logistics environment.
Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage shifting priorities in a busy, fast-moving yard.
Ability to perform heavy manual handling duties safely and work outdoors in all weather conditions.
A proactive attitude toward health and safety, ensuring strict site safety compliance and excellent yard housekeeping.
A reliable, responsible, and team focused approach with strong communication skills to coordinate with colleagues across departments and delivery drivers.
A valid Pivot (Bendi/Flexi) Forklift Truck licence, and a Counterbalance licence is highly advantageous.
