Moss View School is a growing specialist primary school supporting children with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and SEND.
Following continued growth and the confirmation of additional pupil placements, we are preparing to open our fourth class after the October half-term. As part of this expansion, we are recruiting two Key Workers to join our team and help establish and support our newest class.
Our classes are intentionally small, with a maximum of 8 pupils, supported by a Teacher and two Key Workers. This allows our staff to build strong relationships, understand each child as an individual and provide the consistent, nurturing and structured support our pupils need to succeed.
The Role
As a Key Worker at Moss View, you will play an important role in both pupils' education and their wider social and emotional development.
This is a hands-on role. You will work alongside the class teacher to support pupils throughout the school day, helping them access learning, regulate their emotions, develop positive relationships and build the resilience and independence they need to thrive.
Our pupils may display challenging or dysregulated behaviour as a result of their SEMH needs, so we are looking for people who can remain calm, consistent and compassionate while maintaining clear expectations and boundaries.
Key Responsibilities
- Support pupils with SEMH and SEND needs within a small specialist classroom environment.
- Provide individual, small-group and whole-class support alongside the class teacher.
- Build strong, positive and trusting relationships with pupils.
- Support emotional regulation, behaviour and engagement using consistent, nurturing approaches.
- Help pupils access learning and make progress from their individual starting points.
- Promote resilience, independence, confidence and positive social interaction.
- Support the implementation of EHCP outcomes, individual strategies and personalised support plans.
- Recognise triggers and respond appropriately to dysregulation and behaviours that may challenge.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, colleagues, families and other professionals.
- Maintain accurate records and contribute to monitoring pupils' progress and wellbeing.
- Participate fully in the wider school day, including PE, swimming, outdoor learning, educational visits and enrichment activities.
- Follow safeguarding, health and safety and school policies at all times.

About You
We are looking for people who genuinely understand that behaviour is a form of communication and who can provide pupils with the consistency, structure and positive relationships they need.
Previous experience of working with children or young people with SEMH and/or SEND is strongly preferred. Experience of supporting children who may present with challenging behaviour would be particularly valuable.
You will need to be:
- Calm, resilient and emotionally consistent.
- Confident supporting children with a range of SEMH needs and behaviours.
- Caring and nurturing while able to maintain clear professional boundaries.
- Patient and able to respond positively when situations become challenging.
- Reliable, proactive and willing to work as part of a close-knit team.
- A strong communicator with a child-centred approach.
- Willing and physically able to participate in activities including PE, swimming and outdoor learning.
- Committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
- Willing to undertake relevant training and ongoing professional development.
