Full-Time Working Bar Manager
The Winyard's Gap Inn, Chedington, Dorset
We're not looking for someone simply to manage a bar. We're looking for someone to help lead one of Dorset's most welcoming country pubs.
The Winyard's Gap Inn is a very busy, independently owned pub and dining room with six guest bedrooms, stunning countryside views and a loyal local following. We serve honest, locally sourced food, host live music throughout the summer and pride ourselves on exceptional hospitality.
We're looking for an experienced, energetic and commercially minded Working Bar Manager to become a key part of our future. A competitive salary and generous tips are available for the right person.
This is a genuinely hands-on position. We're looking for someone who leads from the front—pulling pints, supporting the team during busy services and setting the standard every day. While you'll take responsibility for stock ordering, beverage margins, rotas and cellar management, this is very much a working manager role at the heart of a thriving business.
We need someone we can trust to take ownership of the bar operation and confidently run the pub in our absence. You'll be comfortable making decisions, closing the pub at the end of the night and ensuring everything runs smoothly and professionally from start to finish.
The Role
- Lead and inspire our bar team, creating a positive and professional working environment.
- Work on the bar during service, leading by example and supporting the team whenever needed.
- Deliver outstanding customer service throughout the pub and dining room.
- Manage bar rotas, stock control and cellar standards.
- Order beers, wines, spirits and soft drinks, maintaining strong supplier relationships.
- Monitor beverage margins and help drive profitability through effective purchasing and stock management.
- Train, support and develop bar staff.
- Take responsibility for opening and closing procedures and confidently oversee the pub during management absence.
- Help deliver successful events, live music nights and seasonal promotions.
- Be a welcoming presence for locals, diners and visitors alike.
About You
You will:
- Have previous experience in a supervisory, assistant manager or bar manager role.
- Thrive in a busy, food-led environment.
- Enjoy being on the floor and leading from the front.
- Be organised, reliable and commercially aware.
- Take pride in high standards and genuine hospitality.
- Be someone who can work independently and make sound decisions when required.
- Be looking for a long-term opportunity rather than simply your next job.
What We Offer
- A competitive salary for the right person.
- Generous tips.
- Company pension.
- Staff discounts
- On-site parking.
- The opportunity to play an important role in an ambitious, family-run independent business with genuine responsibility and autonomy.
If you love proper pubs, great food and genuine hospitality, we'd love to hear from you.
