Role Overview
ACP Services Ltd is looking for an experienced Senior Vehicle Technician and MOT Tester to take a hands-on supervisory role within our car workshop.
The successful candidate will work closely with the Car Workshop Manager and will be responsible for helping to supervise the day-to-day work of two other mechanics, while remaining fully productive themselves carrying out MOT tests, servicing, diagnostics and vehicle repairs.
We are looking for someone who can lead by example, help keep work moving through the workshop efficiently and provide technical support to the other technicians when required.
Main Responsibilities
Hands-On Vehicle Work
The role will remain primarily a productive workshop position.
Duties will include:
* Carrying out vehicle servicing and maintenance.
* Mechanical repairs.
* Brake, suspension and steering repairs.
* Clutch and general drivetrain repairs.
* Diagnostic and fault-finding work.
* Electrical fault diagnosis where required.
* Preparing vehicles for MOT.
* Carrying out remedial work following MOT failure.
* Road testing vehicles where necessary.
* Completing jobs efficiently and to a high standard.
MOT Testing
The successful candidate will also be responsible for carrying out MOT tests within our testing station.
Responsibilities include:
* Carrying out MOT tests to DVSA standards.
* Maintaining current MOT Tester status.
* Completing required annual MOT training and assessments.
* Following correct MOT testing procedures.
* Accurately recording MOT results.
* Maintaining high standards of professionalism and compliance within the MOT bay.
* Reporting any issues with MOT equipment or procedures to the Workshop Manager.
Workshop Supervision
Alongside their own productive work, the successful candidate will help supervise two other workshop mechanics**.
This will include:
* Helping organise and allocate work alongside the Workshop Manager.
* Keeping an eye on the progress of jobs throughout the day.
* Making sure technicians remain productive.
* Helping prioritise urgent or time-sensitive work.
* Assisting technicians with difficult repairs or diagnosis.
* Checking that work is being carried out correctly.
* Helping ensure jobs are completed within sensible timescales.
* Identifying delays or problems and reporting them to the Workshop Manager.
* Helping maintain good communication between technicians and the office.
The successful candidate should be confident giving direction where necessary while still working as part of the team.
Quality Control
The role will also involve helping maintain the standard of work leaving the workshop.
Responsibilities will include:
* Checking completed repairs where necessary.
* Helping reduce repeat repairs and customer comebacks.
* Ensuring correct parts and repair procedures are being used.
* Making sure vehicles are safe before being returned to customers.
* Supporting less experienced technicians when required.
* Maintaining high standards of workmanship throughout the workshop.
Supporting the Workshop Manager
The successful candidate will work closely with the existing Workshop Manager and provide additional supervision on the workshop floor.
This may include:
* Helping manage workload during busy periods.
* Taking responsibility for the workshop floor when the Workshop Manager is unavailable.
* Feeding back on job progress and technician performance.
* Helping identify additional parts or labour required.
* Highlighting jobs that may exceed their estimated time.
* Helping maintain an organised workflow.
* Assisting with the development of technicians and apprentices.
The Workshop Manager will retain overall responsibility for the department.
Skills & Experience Required
The ideal candidate will have:
* Strong experience as a Vehicle Technician.
* Current MOT Tester status.
* Good mechanical and diagnostic ability.
* Experience working on a wide range of cars and light commercial vehicles.
* Confidence supervising or supporting other technicians.
* Good fault-finding skills.
* Ability to manage their own workload while also helping supervise others.
* Good communication skills.
* A practical and organised approach.
* High standards of workmanship.
* Full UK driving licence.
Previous experience as a Senior Technician, Workshop Supervisor, Assistant Workshop Manager or Foreman would be advantageous, although we would also consider an experienced technician who is ready to take the next step.

* The Workshop Manager has a reliable senior person supporting them on the workshop floor.
This is an ideal role for an experienced technician and MOT Tester who wants more responsibility and supervisory involvement while remaining hands-on with vehicle repairs and MOT testing.
Pay: £44,460.00-£51,480.00 per year
