Guildford Manor Hotel & Spa is a family-run hotel and spa set high on Newlands Corner in the Surrey Hills. Originally built in 1892, the Manor is a house full of history, character and charm, with beautiful gardens, hotel bedrooms, spa facilities, event spaces and countryside views.
Today, Guildford Manor blends heritage, hospitality and a warm family welcome. We are looking for a reliable, practical and hands-on Maintenance Person to help us keep the property, gardens and facilities safe, functional and beautifully presented for our guests, visitors and team.
This is a varied role suited to someone who takes pride in their work, enjoys solving practical problems, and understands the importance of maintaining high standards in a busy hotel and spa environment.
Job Overview
As the Maintenance Person, you will support the day-to-day upkeep, repair and presentation of Guildford Manor Hotel & Spa.
You will work across the hotel, spa, bedrooms, public areas, function spaces, back-of-house areas and external grounds, helping to ensure that the Manor is always safe, well maintained and ready to welcome guests.
The role will involve routine repairs, preventative maintenance, responding to maintenance requests and helping the wider team with practical tasks required for the smooth running of the hotel, spa, weddings and events.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct regular inspections of the property to identify areas requiring attention or improvement.
- Carry out routine repairs including painting, decorating, carpentry, minor plumbing, basic electrical fixes and general maintenance tasks.
- Respond to maintenance requests from guests and staff in a timely and professional manner.
- Support preventative maintenance across bedrooms, bathrooms, public areas, spa facilities, plant areas and key building systems.
- Help maintain the hotel, spa, event spaces and back-of-house areas to a high standard.
- Assist with the upkeep and presentation of external areas, gardens, pathways, signage, outdoor furniture and general grounds.
- Liaise with external contractors where required for larger repairs, installations or specialist works.
- Ensure maintenance work is carried out safely and in line with health and safety requirements.
- Keep tools, supplies and parts organised and report when stock or equipment is required.
- Assist with the preparation and smooth running of weddings, events and hotel operations where practical maintenance support is needed.
- Help ensure the property is always safe, functional, welcoming and well presented.
- Support the wider management team with practical tasks as required.
Ideal Candidate Characteristics and Skills
- Previous experience in property maintenance, hotel maintenance, facilities, trades or a similar hands-on role.
- Practical knowledge of general repairs, painting, decorating, plumbing, carpentry and basic electrical work.
- A proactive approach, with the ability to spot issues before they become bigger problems.
- Strong attention to detail and pride in maintaining high standards.
- Reliable, punctual and able to work independently.
- Good communication skills and a professional manner when dealing with guests, staff and contractors.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritise urgent maintenance issues.
- Health and safety conscious.
- Flexible and willing to support the needs of a busy hotel, spa and events venue.
- A positive attitude and genuine desire to help create a safe, well-maintained and welcoming environment.
