About Us
Domin8 Academy is a martial arts and fitness gym in Handsworth, home to a thriving member community, a competitive Fight Team, and a dedicated Ladies Only programme. We're growing fast — from our coaching pathway to our own gym management software in development — and we're looking for someone to be the first face members see and the driving force behind keeping them engaged.
The Role
You'll be the front-of-house lead for the gym — the person who turns enquiries into members and members into long-term regulars. This is a conversion and retention role at heart, not just a reception desk. You'll report to our founder and head coach, and work closely with the coaching team to make sure every member feels looked after, from their first trial class to years down the line.
We're replacing an outgoing team member who'll be with us until end of August 2026, so there's time for a proper handover — no need to hit the ground running on day one.
What You'll Be Doing
- First impressions & sales — greeting enquiries and trial members, running them through the sign-up journey, and converting interest into memberships
- Member retention — running regular check-ins with members, spotting anyone falling away, and reaching out with genuine, personal re-engagement (not generic messages)
- Weekly member reviews — pulling attendance data, flagging members who've gone quiet, and working with the coaching team on who needs a nudge, a chat, or a reason to come back
- Day-to-day admin — managing membership records accurately, including correct contact details for junior (under-18) members and their parents/guardians
- Comms — sending clear, well-timed updates to members about pricing, classes, events, and gym news
- Being the face of the gym — representing Domin8's culture and standards in every interaction, in person and online
What We're Looking For
- A natural people-person who's comfortable both selling and caring — you can close a sign-up and also spot when a member needs a supportive conversation
- Confident with computers and everyday software — you'll be working across membership systems, spreadsheets, and messaging tools daily
- Some sales experience or a clear sales instinct — comfortable converting enquiries without being pushy
- Punctuality is a must — you're often the first point of contact for members and trials
- Uses initiative — happy to spot what needs doing and get on with it, rather than waiting to be told
- Organised and reliable with admin and data (attendance records, membership systems, accurate note-keeping)
- Confident communicator — face-to-face, over the phone, and in writing
- Experience in a gym, fitness, hospitality, or customer-facing sales role is a plus, but attitude matters more than CV
- Genuinely interested in martial arts / fitness culture (you don't need to train, but you should get why our members do)
- Must have the right to work in the UK
- Must be willing to undergo a DBS check (this role involves handling junior member and parent/guardian contact records)
What You'll Get
- £13.00/hour plus a bonus incentive tied directly to your impact on conversion and retention — the better the gym performs, the better you're rewarded
- Pro-rata holiday entitlement (statutory minimum)
- A front-row seat in a gym that's scaling fast, with real input into how member experience is shaped
- Supportive, close-knit team environment
- Direct handover and training from the outgoing team member before they leave
